  1. Finally got my R1S

Congratulations, and welcome to the forum (as an owner, not a lurker!). I hope you love your Rivian!
  2. Your experience with service?

This is normal. In my recent service appointment (over the weekend), the determination was that my problem was covered by warranty and I was charged $0. Thank you to Matt and the service team in South San Francisco for handling this matter very satisfactorily.
  3. Any thoughts on an e-scooter to complement an R1T?

My first EV was an electric unicycle (EUC). I still have it, and it fits nicely in the Rivian’s frunk. It’s a KingSong S18. You have to learn how to ride these things, but when you have, they’re great: Small, fast and very portable, with decent range. (They’re heavy, but in most situations you...
  4. Are charging stations dynamically added to navigation during trip?

As long as you’re not driving through a ā€œcharging desert,ā€ my advice is to embrace the charging stops on longer trips. Often there’s a restaurant or coffee shop nearby. Plug in, use the rest room, stretch your legs, buy some coffee, relax. The reality of EV ownership (in this generation of EVs)...
  5. 3PMSF, probably not what you think it means.

First of all, sorry for being so crotchety. I got out of the wrong side of bed this morning. But perhaps my point was that I didn’t want to have to watch the video to find out whether I wanted to watch the video. Of course, all that was to save time, and here I am spending more time (a)...
  6. 3PMSF, probably not what you think it means.

3PMSF, like so many abbreviations, means nothing to me, except to signal that the author is ā€œon the inā€ and the ignorant reader is ā€on the out.ā€ Three point multi service fluid. Three people met in San Francisco. Please spell it out fully to define the abbreviation before using it.
  7. Ceramic Coating changed my car washing life

Thought I might lower the tone a little... It's hard to keep your car clean when you drive it around in the snow.
  8. NY to Tahoe with 13YR Adventure Dog

Have a great trip with your doggie! Look for hotels/motels with charging infrastructure. (Some of them even offer it for free!) Then you can charge to 100% overnight. What it saves you in stops adds up after a few days.
  9. 2023 R1s conserve more no power

There may be issues with your truck, but in general my advice is not to bother with conserve mode. Perhaps it might help a bit when you’re on a long, steady cruise. I found that switching in and out was more trouble than it’s worth. For me it’s All Purpose, all the time. Some prefer Sport mode.
  10. šŸ¤” For drivers in crowded cities: What almost went wrong?

Right turn on red is terribly dangerous for pedestrians. It’s literally true that often the most dangerous time to cross the street is when the WALK sign comes on. Drivers approaching the intersection are looking in exactly the opposite direction for traffic to merge with, rather than...
  11. Rivian Autonomy & AI Day! Lidar, Hands-Free Driving, Rivian Assistant & more announced

A few things I took from this presentation: 1. It was billed as autonomy day, and futures beyond autonomy were out of scope. 2. There was a lot of AI-speak that is intentionally mumbo-jumbo to the vast majority of listeners. The intention is to demonstrate that they have AI chops. 3. It's...
  12. New Purple color teased by Rivian? - "A new sight to behold. Arriving tomorrow."

Papal purple for the new Popemobile? You heard it first here. Compact Parking LOL. (But then we can’t complain about ICE in the EV charge bays…)
  13. Best Practices for Markings/Signage at Public Chargers

When we got our first EV (Audi e-tron) I remember what an adventure it was to find a charger in a new place. Maps are good, but they’re less helpful in multi-story parking structures. ā€œYou have arrived.ā€ OK, but there’s no charger in sight! Experience teaches one to use apps like Plugshare that...
  14. What’s your go-to camp kitchen cooking setup? šŸ³

@kanundrum, your setup looks great. Pictures are inspiring but please add details. Do you have a water tank under there? Do you have folding table legs under the plywood? What sink are you using?
  15. What’s your go-to camp kitchen cooking setup? šŸ³

R1S with seats all folded flat. Dometic fridge strapped down behind driver, accessible via rear left door. Amazon electric kettle for tea and coffee made with Aero press (heavy use) Double-ring electric cook top from Peach Street (prob need to upgrade to induction but that means replacing my...
  16. R1's fancy suspension has been outdone

It was the Citroen SM that had the swiveling lights. Now my Audi e-tron has something similar. It’s a good feature.
  17. 10/26 White R1S with 22s in newtown square smoking ICE vehicles at 8:30am

I’m not into drag racing, but I do enjoy it when some pumped up 4x4 pulls up next to me at the light, roaring mightily, as if about to go to war, and then calmly, quietly and smoothly pulling well clear of him when it turns green. I just can’t understand how anyone can enjoy that harsh ride and...
  18. Help Me Understand Micromobility

It’s precisely about the absurdity of using an enormous vehicle to drive a single person for a relatively short journey (perhaps 1/2 mile - 3 miles) in reasonable weather without too much of a load to carry. Traffic, parking, noise, energy, pollution… Bicycles are great, but not everyone is...
  19. Charge Point Home Wall Charger Intermittent after 9 Months

Iā€˜ve had similar issues with my Chargepoint home charger. Mine’s plugged in via 14-50. I’ve found that periodically unplugging it for a minute or two solves the problem. It’s annoying but the workaround isn’t too onerous.
