  1. A good time to own an EV - Gas Prices about to go nuts [LOCKED DUE TO POLITICS]

Bike lanes do have a problem: they collect road debris like stones, glass, and tiny wires from tires. Cyclists tend to ride where the cars ride because that is the lowest probability of a puncture. So cyclists are upset they can’t use a bike lane full of debris they can’t necessarily see...
  2. A good time to own an EV - Gas Prices about to go nuts [LOCKED DUE TO POLITICS]

California state gas tax is $0.7092 per gallon and it is set high to discourage driving with internal combustion engines, so we have less smog among other reasons
  3. Cybertruck Laugh of the Day [āš ļø WARNING: NO POLITICS; MEMBERS BANNED]

I’m hoping Dustin has wrapped the doors in a whacky color scheme or my vision is what is whacky
  4. Cybertruck Laugh of the Day [āš ļø WARNING: NO POLITICS; MEMBERS BANNED]

What a crying shame with that empty space for another Cybertruck. https://electrek.co/2026/03/06/2-tesla-cybertrucks-destroyed-fire-santa-monica-parking-garage/

What’s Going on With Shipping (https://youtube.com/@wgowshipping) is a great source of shipping analysis. War risk insurance with much higher premiums is again being written, but ship owners are still holding out on transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
  6. Rivian headlights at night in snowstorm = zero visibility

Bummer. Could try yellow tinted glasses to see if that helps. Surely someone has tried dark tape on the light bar. I wonder if folks have tried 3D printing ’awning’ like devices placed above the headlights to help direct light down. Too bad we don’t have steerable headlight beams.
  7. Rivian headlights at night in snowstorm = zero visibility

It is what it is. Driving after dark in snow is dangerous. My approach is to watch the forecast, and just not drive in snowy weather after dark, or heavy snow during the day. I don’t need to take chances on getting hurt or crashing the vehicle. It is least troublesome overall to not drive in bad...
  8. Anyone else been here in a Rivian? (White Pocket, AZ)

When I was in early elementary school, I thought quicksand was going to be a common problem in my life because all the quicksand in film and TV. Turns out it was sinkholes. Have fun out there!
  9. Speculation - R1T cost after R2 launch…

Wait, isn’t Henry Ford dead and no longer running Ford in any way?
  10. Please Help, My R1S is Bleeding Kilowatts

I submitted my edit to Google on 25 Feb, and it was accepted today. I checked the Rivian app and it now correctly shows my address where I’m parked. Problem solved! The definition of an address isn’t based on GPS coordinates, but instead is in a database of addresses. Google had my address...
  11. Countering cold, winter weather effects for those living in the northern states.

I like winter backpacking. I’m going to try some 125 cm skin based skis with skincleats as a snow shoe replacement this year
  12. Countering cold, winter weather effects for those living in the northern states.

Temps are in Celsius. My freezer is way warmer at -16 C at the moment
  13. Countering cold, winter weather effects for those living in the northern states.

Does the R2 have a steering wheel and seat heaters? Instead of warming the cabin to a higher temperature, it is more battery efficient and effective to warm the occupants directly.
  14. Please Help, My R1S is Bleeding Kilowatts

I just discovered that Google Maps has my address about 400 feet (122 meters) away from the house. Apparently, Rivian uses Google Maps for your address, and not latitude, longitude. I was finally able to submit a correction to Google. Now, how long will it take Google to fix this. 1. The Google...
  15. Countering cold, winter weather effects for those living in the northern states.

On a serious note, EVs lose range in the cold because of the temperature effect on battery chemistry. It is what it is. I often think the gauge showing range in EVs is too good. In an ICE vehicle, you look at the gauge and only think in quarters of a tank and not some minute by minute...
  16. Countering cold, winter weather effects for those living in the northern states.

Visiting ā€˜cold’ areas, say -10 C for California mountains or 10 C for LA, is way better than living in bitterly cold areas. Just move. Problem solved. 🤪
  17. Surely a Charger this BIG is L3

After you stare at the ads without blinking for 30 seconds, the charging is free, but the timer resets if you blink, and you have to stare again for 30 seconds without blinking to get free charging. It’s kind of a Clockwork Orange setup. 🤪
  18. New $59k Cybertruck version announced

Don’t forget, the US Air Force bought some Cybertrucks for target practice in case baddies started to use them. Be prepared!
  19. What do you think of these 10-year real-world cost comparisons?

Emporia does say they are working on an EV plan etc. s00n???
