I originally thought this too. After 3 months, I just changed my default from Normal Regen to high and like it even better.
One trick that really speeds this up- press a button on your phone in your pocket to wake it up - usually unlocked car instantly when I do this.

The shocking thing was just the departure from the quoted range. Started the trip with 255 miles estimated. Added nearly 45 miles estimated on 120V. So 300 estimated wasn’t enough to go 250. Had to stop at an EA station to add 20 more miles of range to make it home.
