If they stick to their $80B valuation, don't worry about getting in on the IPO. You'll surely be able to buy it soon afterward on the open market for less.
I love Rivan and everything they're doing, but $80B is awfully ambitious at this stage in their life cycle.
$80B is higher than Ford, GM, and Stellantis, and they have a limited product line, no public sales, no track record, etc. Much as I love the company and am looking forward to getting my Rivian, I'd rather short it @ $80B.
My original reservation was for the R1T, and I since switched to the R1S so it could fit in my garage and be more maneurable off-road. I'd prefer they ditch the 3rd row and make it sized closer to a Bronco or Wrangler.
Here's a secret you probably don't know. TIre Rack also stocks tires for private parties not shown as available to the public. When I had a Porsche, the OEM tires were a special Porsche-exclusive variant, and my local Porsche dealer was able to have them overnighted from Tire Rack's private...
I rented a Rubicon in Moab, and the rental folks advised you really don't need lockers for much in Moab since the rocks have so much grip. Regardless, the quad motor setup s/b able to replicate and even outperform lockers since each wheel speed/torque/direction can be individually controlled...
One of the more recent off-road vids displayed what looked like relatively poor wheel articulation, which combined w/ the weight, makes me think this is going to be better as an overlander than for serious wheeling or dune blasting.
The Bronco, OTOH, is looking like it's going to be super fun...
I greatly prefer the R1T 20's. It's kind of crazy you can pay even more for the R1S wheels in black on the R1T and get an uglier wheel for more. I wish they'd just make the R1T 20" wheel their only 20" design.
Go back to the Cybertruck's release date and compare how many updates Tesla has provided on it vs Rivian on the R1T and R1S. I don't think that's a fair assessment.
If you're just relaxing while re-charging, don't underestimate how nice it is to have a single sceen everyone can watch in a central position, pumping home-theater quality sound. We have several tablets in our family, but they can't compete with the theatrical experience of our Model 3's screen...
I love driving as well, and have a Miata which I track frequently for the full driving experience. But, on long road trips and in heavy traffic, FSD in my Tesla makes getting from point a to b a lot more relaxing and less stressful.
I don't expect Driver + to be nearly as good as Tesla's FSD...
I bought my Tesla from Texas, where direct sales are also illegal. Tesla made it easy - it was simply a CA sale, and once the sale was complete, they loaded it on a transporter and delivered it at their local Tesla service center, where a rep went over the car thoroughly w/ me and I had the...
Even if they manage to engineer the 3rd row seats to fold flat, think about how much space those seats consume while folded. Then, imagine having a sub-floor hidden compartment (&/or extra battery capacity) in that freed-up space on the 2 row version. They've not just going to leave a hollow...
I'm a day 1 reservation holder and haven't receieved any emails about a delay. Maybe the fact that I already own a Tesla could have something to do with that.
