Thanks all!
I test drove a new Silverado EV on the same day I tried out the Rivian. It drove very well, but decided against it for a few reasons.
1. It is too big to fit in the parking space behind our house
2. Updates only available by visiting dealer service
3. Some of the cool self...
Hi All!
After many, many years following Rivian (including a pre-order that I ended up cancelling), it looks like I am finally in a position to afford a Rivian!
In November I leased a Honda Prologue EV and that has strengthened my resolve to go all EV, but it isn't a vehicle I can use to tow my...
I signed the binding agreement and should be eligible for the tax credit. I am only 60, so I'm paying full taxes on what I take out for retirement at this point (plenty of offset!).
After having a reserved Max Pack preorder for about 2 years, I have come to the very reluctant realization that I really am not willing to pay $82k for a vehicle. I'm mostly retired, and am not willing to forgo all the activities that the $1,000+/month payment and insurance would require. I...
My understanding is that lithium batteries will fail if you attempt to charge them at below freezing temps, so lead acid is needed for starting the system under certain conditions.
Our Airstream is a 23' and I am waiting until next year to get the Max Pack. Whenever that time comes, I'll decide if I want to get rid of our diesel VW Touareg and have only the R1T for towing, or get rid of our little Honda Fit. We have never liked towing long stretches, but I want to see...
My 2016 VW Touareg is the same. My adaptive cruise control went out of calibration and I had no cruise control at all until I had it realigned & calibrated. I don't understand why these systems don't have a "standard" cruise control option available as a fall back.
I have configured the LA Silver largely because of the $$$ savings, but it is also the color of our existing camper tow vehicle (VW Touareg), and looks great with our Airstream!
We are planning on the same thing. Using our diesel VW as a tow vehicle for long trips until the long distance charging is better figured out (also for the 18 months or so until our R1T will be available).
My wife just showed me Airstream's new concept - the E-Stream: https://www.thorindustries.com/innovation-estream
This is an all electric camping trailer with integrated solar, major battery capacity, and drive motors to reduce the trailer load on the tow vehicle (extending range)...
The long term reliability of the electronic systems is my biggest concern. This is not specific to Rivian, but pretty much all current vehicles.
Of my two vehicles, I currently have a 2015 Honda that has a flaky display that prevents me from seeing my fuel level and odometer, and a 2016 VW with...
This is why we are planning on keeping our VW Touareg diesel for long distance towing. The Rivian would replace our small Honda Fit, and would be used for local commutes and short trip camping.
Still need the Max Pack though!
My mileage extension fantasy would be integrated solar and batteries in an Airstream/Rivian coordinated design! Maybe make up for the lost range that results from towing.
Access into the truck is a big question for us. Does anyone know what the door sill height is, and whether this can be minimized for ease of access with the air suspension?
Thanks!
