Figured I would post this after seeing the NACS retrofit request here 🤣
It would be nice (tm) if Rivian offered a retrofit capacitor for early dual-battery R1 vehicles.
It's been confirmed via testing the 12v low voltage service button in the vehicle won't clear DTC's due to a low secondary...
We are in need of data points to better understand the "Low Voltage Battery Service" function in RiDE.
Please post here if you have "self-replaced" your 12v batteries.
Data needed:
Vehicle Information? (Year, R1 Gen 1, Single battery; R1 Gen 1 Dual Battery, etc)
Firmware Version at time...
Ok, I'm working on my DIY service guide, and having a hell of a time figuring out a reasonable solution to the 12V battery replacement.
Battery (BT19BL-BS with reverse posts hard to locate)
AGM https://fullriverbattery.com/batteries/part-ft230/ $$$
No go.. seemed like a reasonable...
I absolutely love my Rivian R1T, and love the company. One thing has been bugging me though.
Rivian as a company is distant, nearly combative on right to repair. It feels like such a weird position
for them to take while consumer focused in pretty much every other aspect.
Here's my journey...
So, i've had my 2022 LE R1T for 3 years, 58k miles. I wanted to take a brief moment to review their service.
Pros:
When it's a known issue, Rivian is quick to repair and offer up free service under warranty for even small defects.
Window trim lifting, gear tunnel storage doors popping off...
Picked up a 19' R-POD thinking it was a bit smaller and wouldn't cut into the range loss as much.
Trailer:
* 19' Length, kind of high
* ~ 2500 lbs
* Sway control bar attached, mid friction
Trip:
* 214 miles total
* 75F outside
* 70 mph freeway for most of the trip with ~400m elevation incline...
2022 R1T Launch Edition. Had a bad "creak" in the rear passenger suspension when adjusting height or going over (slight) bumps. Sounded horrible in parking lots.
I wish they gave a little more information, but it sounds like some incorrect torque caused damage to the lower longitudinal...
I'm a nerd. I can't find *anything* besides Rivian Adventure Network documentation covering support of ISO 15118 (the "official plug and charge") on R1 vehicles.
My reasoning is I *REALLY* want Rivian to better document the lower level specs supported by their vehicles. This is important...
So, Rivian has been back-burner promising V2H, V2G on their current vehicles for a while now. Actual V2G and V2H hardware though is few and far apart as things stand today.
*However* V2L adapters have existed for a while and are available for a variety of vehicles.
Has anyone tried plugging a...
Looking for a single set of Rivian crossbars. Central Texas area. I'll come to you (within reason)
Offering $475. Scuffs, scratches, rash fine. Just have to be non-bent and non-broken.
So, took my R1T in for service. Bunch of routine stuff (fixing trim lifting ah-la early VIN issue, cabin filter, half-shaft bolts backing out, etc). Rivian self-noted testing the drive unit fluids during the maintenance.
Just got a call, my vehicle failed the front drive-unit fluid test...
Ha, I noticed my early vin (<800) R1T Launch Edition came with a Prototype Pirelli Scorpion 20" spare tire when I was taking pictures for the marketplace.
From what I understand, prototype tires generally go to Rivian employee vehicles for testing / validation / etc?
Interesting oops. None...
Looking for a set of Rivian Cargo Crossbars. Will trade anywhere in the Texas triangle
Minor scuffs, etc fine. No major damage though. I want to try the roof-top tent camping thing with my kid. I'll honestly never use the spare and would just tire-plug any nails.
Current MSRP of 20" bright...
The jack pucks are handy, but man they're expensive.. anyone notice that there's a panel that pulls off with 4 bolts around the jack points to access the frame for lifting?

I was dreading turning my R1T over to generic...
