  1. R1T Max Pack + Dual Motor range update from Rivian: 335, 360 and 400 miles range

Me too. I want to range so I don't have to charge as often, but when it comes time to charge, it will be ridiculous and make this vehicle pointless for road trips.
  2. Rivian E-Bike is Coming. RJ Tells Staff Electric Bike in Development

I'd rather them focus really hard on making one thing good than a bunch of stuff with a lot of issues they don't have time to fix.
  3. Enhanced Dual-Motor -- features different mechanical/electrical design or just a software change?

Rivian is acting like Tesla which is such a huge turn off. If I wanted to be treated like submissive fanboi by a car company, I would have bought a Tesla a long time ago. Rivian needs to up their game and treat people better than Tesla, otherwise companies like Kia will put them out of business.
  4. Latest EV tax credit status (as of 12/30/22) - summary by NYT

How long must you own the vehicle to avoid having to pay back the tax credit?
  5. Dual-Motor AWD System Specs: 600hp 0-60 MPH in 4.5 Seconds /// 700hp 0-60 MPH in 3.5 Seconds!

That is computer limited. That is computer limited. No electric motor has a natural flat power curve like that. The torque is adjusted to prevent wheel slippage at low RPM and maintain a constant horsepower at higher RPM. Motors the are operated closer to their max power will have a more...
  6. Dual-Motor AWD System Specs: 600hp 0-60 MPH in 4.5 Seconds /// 700hp 0-60 MPH in 3.5 Seconds!

And torque is all that matters because with a single speed transmission, the only time anyone will experience the full horsepower is at max speed. Horsepower in an EV is purely a marketing gimmick designed to fool those who donā€™t understand what it means.
  7. Update: Your Max Pack Preorder - R1T’s Max Pack only available w/ Dual-Motor. Unavailable w/ Quad-Motor starting 2023

I donā€™t think I want 400V. I feel like I need the extra range because of the slow charging speeds, but I could go with an EV6 or Ionic 6 and have less range, but short recharge times. Just not feeling it with Rivian. I think I am going to cancel since they reneged twice now and canā€™t keep...
  8. Update: Your Max Pack Preorder - R1T’s Max Pack only available w/ Dual-Motor. Unavailable w/ Quad-Motor starting 2023

This is strange because my letter stated: For price committed customers who preordered before 3/1/2022, choosing standard Dual-Motor AWD will lower your current price by $4,500 while the enhanced version will lower it by $2,000. Deliveries are planned to start at the end of summer in limited...
  9. Random 20 Inch rims (cheap) for snow tires

I am curious if anyone has put EV friendly 20 inch tires like the MICHELINĀ® PRIMACYā„¢ ALL SEASON 275/55R20 or the Ion Evolution AS 275/50R20 XL to see if some of the range comes back compared to the AT tires?
  10. Initial charging experience and Vampire drain

This makes me wonder why long term parking lots just don't install a row of 120V 15A plugs for EVs? You get like 100 miles a day with that, right? I guess the risk is someone stealing the charging cord?
  11. R1S flat towing behind an RV?

To avoid liability and comply with the law. I towed a 1,500 pound trailer with by 2,900 pound Geo Tracker. The law didn't require me to have trailer brakes, and yet the trailer was over 50% of the weight of the vehicle. A motorhome towing a Rivian would have a much smaller mass pushing it...
  12. R1S flat towing behind an RV?

A 36,000 pound motorhome towing an 8,000 pound truck experiences a smaller impact than a 5,000 pound vehicle pulling a 2,000 pound trailer which doesn't require a brake in many places. Since a tow bar is rigid, it can transit loads equally well in either direction.
  13. R1S flat towing behind an RV?

Then the brake would still be applied, because the driver is going to hit the brakes when they hear the nose of that tower dragging.
  14. R1S flat towing behind an RV?

I tow my car and it has a surge brake. That means it must apply a force to the tow vehicle in order to be applied. But regardless, the tow vehicle still needs to be able to stop both vehicles if the toad vehicle brake were to fail. The tow bars are indeed designed to transit force in both...
  15. R1S flat towing behind an RV?

Stopping applies the exact same force on the hitch as acceleration would. The hitch braking free would cause the wires to disconnect and you would have the software apply the brakes. Exactly like any other toad or trailer.
  16. R1S flat towing behind an RV?

    Why wouldnā€™t it be safe?
  17. R1S flat towing behind an RV?

Almost certainly the Rivian will produce more power than the motor home. And assisting doesnā€™t mean it is doing everything itself, it just aids in acceleration and braking. And if you are worried about longevity, you donā€™t want to flat tow at all.
