Quick trip to Escalante UT & L2 charging recommendation

Fun trip! I have spent lots of time around Escalante and hiked many of the slot canyons down Hole in the Rock, though I haven't been in a few years. I think there is a hotel in town with level 2 chargers now, it's on my list to go back!

Another White Rim trail trip report

I just returned from my white rim trip. Iā€™m not going to bother with a full trip report, so Iā€™ll just tack on to this thread. It was epic. We drove down from the Seattle area, and had zero issues charging all the way there and back (mostly Electrify America, with a couple of magic dock...

    DIY R1 Brush Guard Installed

No interest from me, but it's nice to see some legitimate DIY work that isn't just a bunch of FDM printed junk. Signed, another DIYer not too far from you. I'll keep my eye out (I'm in Kenmore)

Found in frunk: what are these?

As others said, it's for the child seat latch loops. I didn't think they made it significantly easier, and it seemed like it was going to smoosh the seats up more than the latch buckles alone, so I tossed these in the garbage.

Neener, Neener, Neener... Windshield Washer Fluid by Genuine Chemistry

Iā€™m diluting mine 3:1, so itā€™s more like $6/gallon. Even if I wasnā€™t diluting, Iā€™ve certainly spent more money on weirder stuff!

Neener, Neener, Neener... Windshield Washer Fluid by Genuine Chemistry

The bottle has a table with different dilutions and what temperature it's good to. -27F seems like a stretch.. https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/attachments/pxl_20231124_221808863-jpg.75263/

Traxxas RC Truck + Rivian R1T body

So... I've been holding off on posting anything until I got a little further on the project, to make sure it wasn't a total flop... but yes I am making a vacuum-formed R1T body, 1/10 scale. While I have lots of fabrication skills and abilities in my shop at home, I have never thermo-formed...

Rivian accessory port adapters (to attach some custom 80/20 extruded aluminum accessories)

Here is what the blocks I made look like. Used some scrap aluminum I had on hand, machined on my mill. I use them to mount a rack on the bed for hauling our kayaks, and also for mounting some awning brackets I made on the cab.

In search of the best hitch-mount bike rack for R1S

I have a 1up for hauling two bikes. Itā€™s the only hitch mounted rack I have ever used, so my input doesnā€™t mean much. But it is rock solid even with my 70lb e-bike. I have a 4ā€ drop hitch adapter so I can open the tailgate and not risk it hitting the bike rack. Not sure how the R1S tailgate...

    What Jack are you Packin?

The EV sportline jack doesn't go tall enough to lift the rear off the ground if the truck is in highest suspension setting. I bought a Mercedes Sprinter bottle jack, they can be found for ~$65-$75 on ebay and have more than enough travel to lift the tire off the ground in the highest suspension...

Awning without crossbars -- my setup

Iā€™m a bit of a hobbit (5ā€™5ā€). With the truck fully kneeled, itā€™s very roughly 70ā€ to the awning once opened. Here is a picture of my aluminum mounting blocks. I originally made a set for the bed back I built for hauling my kayaks, but am repurposing two of them for the awning. Pretty simple...

Awning without crossbars -- my setup

Iā€™ve pondered it. The only catch is they wouldnā€™t be universal, since I designed it for the ROAM awning specifically. Would be easy to make the mounting holes slotted, I would just worry about door clearance. The brackets themselves are fairly easy for me to fab. The mounting adapter things to...

Awning without crossbars -- my setup

I wanted to add an awning to my truck, but have no other need to put anything on the roof so I didn't want to put crossbars up there. Also I'm short, and didn't want the extra height that the factory crossbars plus some kind of bracket would have put the awning at. I bought a 6.5ft ROAM awning...

    Gun metal vinyl wheel wraps

Made my own (I have a vinyl plotter). 3m 2080 ā€œsatin dark grayā€ is almost a perfect match to the paint on the 20ā€ ATs.

    3D printer

All FDM parts will be janky (again, this is just a personal opinion), that's just how FDM is. It's hard to hide layer lines. The Ender is all I know, so I can't really answer your question. The Ender is less than $200. Another $100-$200 in mods will make it a great printer. But, a lot of...

    Dark Ash Wood Treatment

Also keep in mind it's likely just a thin veneer wrapped around a plastic backing. It's not a solid hunk of machined wood that will absorb a lot of finish. I've seen people doing similar on the wood trim in Model 3s (also a thin veneer), and it never looks great.

    3D printer

I have an Ender 3. Out of the box, it was so-so, but cheap. After some mods and a LOT of tweaking (and just learning by a ton of trial en error), it now cranks out really good prints. But it's not something you just pull out of the box, throw an STL file at it, and get beautiful parts. I've...
