  1. First Rivian Police Cruiser (Palo Alto) ?

A police patrol vehicle, such as this one, doesn't really accrue that many miles in a single shift. Based on my owner experience, and knowing typical charging times now, they'll be recharging between 50 & 100 miles, and that won't take long.
  2. Suggestions for repair of a minor dent in my gear tunnel door.

If possible, take your car to Rivian affiliated body shop near you. They know how to repair Rivian's. Ask the body shop if they can do Paintless Dent Repair. I had a door ding on mine that was repaired perfectly and a much lower cost than panel removal, etc.
  3. If you’re letting a tire shop work on your Rivian, watch them like a hawk!

A related issue to watch for is that the tire shop replace the jack point covers after do a tire rotation, etc. Discount Tire has been my go-to shop for over 30 years, but they're human and human's err from time to time. Check the jack point covers before you leave the shop.
  4. Any one regretted the R1S based on size?

We've had our R1S for about fourteen months. There was an initial period of adjustment to the size, but within a few weeks we were at ease with it. Primarily it's just my wife and I, but we've really benefited from the three row seating at larger family gatherings. We like the large cargo...
  5. Article: Charging The Electric Rivian R1S Was More Expensive Than Filling Up Some Notorious Gas Guzzlers

My last few long drives up and down California, and Northern California to Las Vegas, have shown that I run about 20% less in charging costs as compared to what my fuel costs would have been for our diesel BMW x5 that gets 27.5 mpg highway. That's not a ton less, but it is still less. And we...
  6. Rivian reliability is a problem

Thirteen months and over 20,000 miles and I still love our R1S. Issues? Sure. Dashboard rattle, fixed in one visit. Wind noise from driver door window; fixed with two short visits. Only really recurrent issue is the fronk lid not latching automatically upon closure. But could still latch...
  7. Mobile Service Invoice - Full of Lies

From the facts you present it appears that you got billed for work that did not occur. That's theft. Call the manager of the SC and present your facts and insist upon an explanation and correction. That failing, advise the SC manager that you will be contacting the police. Then contact the...
  8. Valet parking a Rivian. Best practices? Which key to give valet?

I see the point in giving the valet the fob, but I also have to say that on the several times I've used valet parking in the not quite a year of ownership I've used the keycard I carry in my wallet and I always ask them up front if they know how to drive this car. So far I've not had an issue.
  9. Devastated… rear ended in my brand new week-old 2025 R1S

I'm an attorney, and you don't need us . . . yet. I concur with the advice to make the claim against the other parties insurance company, now. Identify your nearest revian affiliated body shop and go get an estimate. Yes, parts can be slow; I just went through this recently myself. But the...
  10. Where to place a Fire Extinguisher

I, too, would like to hard mount the fire extinguisher. I even asked my SC where one might safely drill to place the holder for the extinguisher. Perhaps understandably, they were not willing to suggest a mounting location. I instead placed the unmounted extinguisher in the rear storage area...
  11. Restrooms @ charging stations

You appear to be speaking in the general, suggesting no Rivian Adventure Network (RAN) has services. If that has been your experience then I'll trust your word. However, we live in Northern California and travel to Las Vegas to visit family. We leave home on full SC and use four RAN stations...
  12. Tool Kit?

I was sitting here wondering what tools I ought to carry in my R1S, so I asked you guys. What an informative array of answers and approaches . . . as usual. Thanks to OP for asking the question and thanks to all of you who responded. Good stuff.
  13. Sacramento Area Rivian Club

Due to scheduled family travel I'd need to push out a meet up to late June and after. Let's stay in touch.
  14. Conflict at the Supercharger

You handled this as well as was possible. There is no accounting for the odd emotional adolescent or two we're all bound to encounter.
  15. Sacramento Area Rivian Club

@sacramentoelectric I'd be interested a little later in the summer to go along to Prairie City. Maybe try my hand and, as I'm a photograph, maybe capture some good images. I'd also wondered if there might be interest in an informal gathering here at our home in the north end of Granite Bay to...
  16. R1S as only vehicle for family: how cooked am I?

I agree; get home charger, top it up every night as we do, and you won't have charging issues for the about town driving you're doing. I've had my R1S since November of 2023 and couldn't be happier. Love driving the car, whether short or long distances. Great ride. Ample room for your kids...
  17. Sacramento Area Rivian Club

Thanks for the welcome. With not quite six months ownership under our belt we've already put over 10,000 miles on our Rivian. Very few and minor issues. Did have a dash rattle, but then it seems who hasn't had that. Sacramento SC fixed it very quickly and well, as did they also on a...
  18. R1S Spare Tire: I am a fool... bought full size spare tire

This has been widely known and discuss on this and other forums for the past 2+ years I've been involved. But not so much recently, so I can understand you not having known this. We bought the donut spare and that's what's in our spare tire compartment. Am I crazy about this? No. But it's...
  19. Sacramento Area Rivian Club

We live in Granite Bay, Placer County. Took Delivery of our R1S November 10, 2023. Forest Green and OC. 21" wheels. Placed our order on Feb. 28, 2022, but jumped up our delivery by a couple of months through shopping the R1S Shop. Found just what we wanted and a bit more. Would like to...
  20. What is to the left of my backup camera?

Fluid. Leaves yellow stain. I see you humorous point. But . . . nah, let's skip the potty humor and go with cleaner fluid.
