  1. I "Icing" Still a Thing?

I do a lot of roadtripping and haven’t really noticed any serious L2 icing. But it have found it useful to carry an L2 extension cord for charging in campgrounds or other people’s homes. Mine cost about $180 for a 20-25 ft cord. and I believe it would help if I ever ran into an icing situation.
  2. DIY Tire Rotation?

I looked into doing my own tire rotation because I didn’t think my local tire dealer could handle it and I didn’t want to go through the hassle of scheduling a Rivian service appointment. I even bought some of the tools needed to do the rotation. But then I found out my local tire dealer can do...
  3. Rivian needs more destination stops a la Tesla diner

I wouldn't necessarily want Rivian to get into the restaurant business, but I sure would like them to do a better job of picking locations with at least a 24/7 bathroom and somewhere to grab a bite of food while I wait nearby. I try to stop at RAN stations whenever I travel to support Rivian...
  4. WDH for towing travel trailer

You should be in great shape with that outfit. Aerodynamics are the most important thing, especially over reasonably level ground. The canoe won’t change that. We tow with 2 kayaks on the roof of our R1S and it doesn’t affect range at all. The only thing I would say is to keep your speed below...
  5. WDH for towing travel trailer

Wow! Thank you for pointing that out. I missed it. I would definitely recommend turning off the auto speed limit when towing. I've already done that in preparation for my next trip.
  6. WDH for towing travel trailer

We got our R1S (DM, Max Pack) in November 2023 and since then have put 27,000 miles on it, including 4000 miles towing our Escape 19 fiberglass trailer. Since I’m retired most of those miles are from road trips. In fact, I was just on a 1200 mile road trip and thinking about what useful...
  7. Display Font Size

Thank you for starting this thread. The small font size has been a big issue for me as well, especially when wearing sunglasses. It got a little better with the new font but is still too small. I would love a larger font size or the ability to change it. It would make driving so much better. I...
  8. R1S Owners - Rivian needs Liftgate Data

I;ve had the exact same problem with the lift gate opening a bit and closing again. I was getting a message on the main screen that an object was in the way, when there was clearly nothing. Now that I think about it, I was also parked on an incline. The problem hasn't recurred since then but...
  9. WDH for towing travel trailer

I forgot mention that I was traveling at 60 mph on the highway (most of the trip) and between 45-55 on secondary roads. I only traveled 100 miles but usage was 1.38 miles per kWh so that tracks. Also, the new Rivian upgrade which calculates the weight and resistance of the trailer seems to...
  10. WDH for towing travel trailer

We just picked up our R1S (Dual motor, Max pack) a couple of weeks ago. One of my main concerns was towing since you hear so much negative about it. So, I did a trial run today with my Escape-19 trailer (Fiberglass, GVWR 4000 lbs) for 100 miles. Conditions were challenging: temperature 32F...
