There have been only a few posts (eg, @forestwalker) on the new 21” Yokohama Geolandar A/T4, so I am adding my impressions.
As my OEM Pirelli Scorpion Verde all-seasons on the 21" wheels hit 25K miles with 4-5/32 remaining, I spent too much time debating staying on 21s versus moving to 20s. I...
I've had fewer open road trips recently and with winter weather less opportunity to test it. Having said that, over the holidays we did 400 miles of mostly highway and I don't remember it doing the dreaded beep-beep-beep and shutting down the cruise.
We did a 5000 trip in Sept pulling a Vistabule (1500 lbs). We averaged 110 miles between charges, with a max segment of 148 miles. We were able to charge hitched up about 1/3-1/2 of the time.
I found ABRP underestimated range consistently. It told me one segment was not possible to achieve...
Not sure how I missed this thread before. Nice write up.
My Gen 1 R1T with dual motors always had a mild vibration as motors engaged/released in Multipurpose mode. In early Sept, it changed to a dramatic thunk/vibration while slowing or harder acceleration. Still only in Multipurpose - with...
@NeverFollow - this trip we had few mosquitos to deal with. The advantage of late season and much of it in the drier west. On other trips mid-summer and in the NE or SE mosquitos did make an appearance. As you stated, sunset/dusk increases them. We just have to use repellents then.
Great point. Having just done a 5000-mile trip with a trailer, the front charging port allowed me to stay hooked up at about 50% of my charging stops. If it were in the rear, that would have dropped to 10% for the few RAN locations on my route and perhaps empty Tesla stations where one could...
I'll have to monitor next trip more closely. I recall it varied from about 1.8 up to 5, and that was from the trucks charging monitor for outlet usage. With frequent charging stops and the like, it was hard to get definitive 24 hr values. Our weather was warm (often 80F), sunny, and we were...
Do you have a sense of how much more efficient the 12v DC is vs using 120v AC and the inverter? I just did a 15 day trip with an Iceco VL35ProS. With regular charging stops, no issue. It seemed to use 3-5 kWh per day with the temp set to 1F for frozen items. I have the Iceco insulating jacket...
Nice write up. Definitely agree that charging stops have modest impact on overall time. On our recent 5000 mile trek, we’d hook up to the charger, get the dog out, find a bathroom, have a snack and the truck would be ready to go. We found that the nav estimates of SOC/range at the next stop were...
Part 4 - Campgrounds
My preference for campgrounds is national or state park, followed by KOA and then private RV parks. We weren’t in close proximity to national parks at nights for this trip, but did find 3 state parks (in PA, IN, and IA) near the interstate during our cross country drive and...
Part 3 - Trailers and Charging
We had to disconnect the trailer at 30-40% of charging stops. We are lucky to have a small, light trailer that we can push around if needed. A nit that I have is that when the trailer is connected to the truck, it does a good job of indicating what target SOC and...
Part 2 - Stats
Overall, with our trailer that shows as 2000 lb to the R1T, we averaged 1.66 mi/kWh. We saw efficiency vary from roughly 1.25 mi/kWh on the interstate when we had strong head winds and were on I-90 and I-76 gaining elevation across Nebraska and Colorado to >1.8 mi/kWh on flat to...
Part 1 - Intro
We just completed a 5012-mile trip with our 2023 gen 1 dual motor R1T (Meili – Norse god of travel) pulling a Vistabule teardrop trailer from Boston to western Colorado and back. It was an exceptional trip and our only regret is that we did not have more time to explore Colorado...
Picked up my R1T from the service center today and asked a lead tech about the dumb-cruise shutting down. He said they are aware of a bug that crosses Driver+ and dumb-cruise that seems to be causIng it. He expects a future software update to address.
I had similar experience as @zefram47 . Was towing cross country this week and dumb-cruise would randomly shut down. I was at Rivian Service today and forgot to mention it because of another issue we were addressing.
I'm in the Boston area. First tire rotation had 7 week wait. A failed suspension sensor was 8 week wait - had thought that would get escalated as critical but it wasn't.
Just tried to get next tire rotation via mobile service and the app reported 'none available.' A service scheduler called...
It's great to see the variety here, and another Vistabule. We've had the trailer since 2018 and added the R1T at the end of 2023. As a teardrop, interior is compact but very comfortable. We love the kitchen off the back. On our last trek last year, we saw about 1.8 mi/kWh.
Finally had my appointment last week and got the truck back yesterday. They determined the low voltage harness to the RR height sensor was corroded. The same as michiganpinball. Repaired and all systems are functional again. The ride improvement vs having the suspension locked is night and day...
Glad to hear you are resolved. I have another 4 weeks until my appointment. As you can see in the pictures, the RR is stuck at max height and LF is at its lowest. Unable to change suspension or drive settings and no cruise, lane departure, emergency braking, auto high beam, parking sensors. I...
Yes. Limited to All Purpose mode and not able to change ride height. That impacts other items like Auto High Beams since that requires leveling.
I'm not sure what the connection to Adaptive Cruise Control, Emergency Braking and Lane Departure is, but perhaps on the same harness or bus...
