This ^ is important to know.
Also know that 5 miles is a VERY short distance to precondition the battery and will result in a large energy expenditure (especially if the vehicle is cold) for very little benefit. Preconditioning is much more efficient and effective when navigating to a distant...
I find battery temperature when starting the drive to be the biggest factor effecting winter driving efficiency.
At battery temps above ~50°F, the winter efficiency hit is minimized. To achieve this battery temp in the winter, I schedule my overnight L2 charging session to complete within 30...
Are you using the app to set the climate schedule?
I've had problems using the app, and the new climate schedule I want often doesn't take.
I've had 100% success setting the climate schedule directly in the vehicle. It's not convenient, but it's reliable.
+1 for Camp Mode with everything off to the maximum extent possible. This will keep the vehicle asleep when entering and exiting the vehicle, and sounds, lights, and proximity locking will be off.
The only thing we normally power off the vehicle when camping is an induction cooktop for...
I was recently gifted a magnetic Snostrip. Figured it would be useless on the aluminum R1T, but I tried slapping it on and to my surprise it stuck on the bed!
As expected, the magnet did not stick anywhere else on the vehicle, but I find it interesting that the panel that forms the bed and part...
I've had this issue with my truck parked outside at around -15°F.
The problem is the computer that controls L2 charging is cold. Blasting the cabin climate control on HI for about 10 minutes normally warms up the computer enough to start charging.
If I'm scheduling a L2 charge to start...
Has anyone bought tires for their Rivian at Les Schwab? If so, what tires did you get and how do you like them? I'm currently on the original 20" OEMs and they're getting on the bare side for winter use.
Please no recommendations for other tire shops, I live in a remote area and Les Schwab is...
Worth noting: "driving efficiency" and "overall efficiency" are two different things.
The trip meter records overall efficiency, total miles traveled ÷ total kWh used. So, the trip meter reflects all the energy used while the vehicle is parked maintaining the battery and preconditioning the...
Yep, big problem, discussed in another thread.
Turning off your charging schedule in the truck will allow your set charge limit to stick. If you have a non-Rivian L2 charger at home, you can use that to set a charge schedule.
OP,
I had a failure to charge earlier this week at -16°F.
My L2 home charger (a Grizzl-E rated to -22°F) was operable, but the vehicle wouldn't accept power).
Turned out the Rivian computer that controls charging was cold. Blasting the cabin heat on HI for about 5 minutes fixed the problem...
Here's my current workaround for the software bug. This can't be performed thru the app and must be done in the truck:
1) Turn off the charging schedule.
2) Reset the charge limit to the desired limit (As an extra precaution against surprises, I switch to another limit close to the one I...
So far, no fix only workarounds.
Also, sometime this week my service request for the software problem mysteriously disappeared from my account without any follow-up from Rivian. I'm pissed.
Hack to get the wipers out from under the hood so they don't freeze and it's easier to clean out snow from the hole: Service menu > Wiper change mode. Parks the wipers on the glass and you can lift the blades. Note the frunk will not open in this mode.
This has been so useful this winter that...
I park my Gen 1 R1T outside in Montana and have had multiple nights with single digits temperatures and a couple of nights below zero. I haven't had any major problems with the cold so far. A couple of key points:
1) I always keep the vehicle plugged in at home so it can use shore power to...
Does anyone know if someone is making a "reverse jack puck" that enables the Rivian jack included with the vehicle to be used as a regular jack for a standard ICE vehicles?
This would have been useful the other day when I stopped to help someone else change a flat tire and their jack was...
I tried this, and so far it's been successful as a workaround solution and my charge limit is now at 100%.
Also, Rivian CS called me back today and it sounds like an OTA fix for the problem is in the works.
