I'm really leaning towards no on R2, at least for now that the options have prices.
Pricing on this is all upside down. It all seems focused on driving demand for the LE but risks creating a demand cliff once LE demand wears off or is pulled from availability. In the R2 market space price...
I'm in the same boat. It's not what I could afford to pay, it's what I want to put into a depreciating asset. The $57k LE quickly becomes $66k once delivery and taxes (high tax Chicago). Premium is $61k OTD. I don't get the comparison to the BMW i3x as it starts with a $5k higher MSRP than LE...
TireRack and Discount Tire are now both showing 255/65R19 BFG KO3 as coming soon. Discount lists this tire as 3 peak mountain snowflake while Tire Rack says it is not. The BFG website doesn't even list this tire yet which would be the definitive source for 3PMSF rating.
While great tires off...
I'm guessing that there is a limited number (seven in this case) of colors that Rivian can offer at any given time. With Launch Green in the mix for the LE one of the other available colors had to be delayed until non-LE production begins. Borealis unfortunately was the one that didn't make the cut.
Order sheet check box permutations are totally irreverent. The 2 wheel choices on LE are a trivial addition to manufacturing complexity. The vehicles could potentially ship with one wheel or even steel wheels and be swapped to the customer choice just before delivery. GM did exactly that with...
Side: R1S has badge on the C-pillar (behind rear door), R2 does not.
Rear: R1S has license plate on the drop gate. R2 has it on the bumper.
Front: R1 has 5 segment headlights, R2 has 3.
Can confirm Old Orchard has a midnight and Catalina cove, both with 20" AT wheels. This was my first time visiting that space which is rather small. Due to the small size there were only R2s on display, no R1s, but they were offering test drives of R1.
Discount Tire is showing 255/65R19 KO3s available in May:
Great AT tires but will come with a pretty decent range hit as well. Specs list them as 3 peak as well.
Starting with the current Eskar Silver/Black Crater Signature Performance at $59,485 and adding Autonomy+ ($2500), Towing ($1000 est) and Key fob ($250) brings the total to $63,235.
My estimate is that LiDAR will add $3k to the price. So $66,235. I consider both the towing and LiDAR pricing...
With a build and price unavailable at this time I've put together a spreadsheet tracking the various trims and options. I'll try and keep it updated when new info becomes available, mainly the option pricing. Let me know if you find an error.
4400 lbs is 2000 kg. With the R2 being designed to meet Euro spec that number makes more sense. I don't know if there is a particular EU regulatory distinction for trailer weight above 2000 kg but that might be why.
I'm still trying to parse this statement from Ars:
It seems to be saying that Auto+, tow package, and another color is both optional and included with the Launch/Performance trim. Assuming the MSRPs in this article are correct the Performance/Launch Edition is a screaming deal over the Premium...
My guess is that the R2 duals have yellow, tri will be lagua blue. Kinda seems like the current caliper color scheme is laguna blue for the top spec (R1=quad, R2=tri) and yellow for the mid spec (R1=tri, R2=dual) and gray for entry spec (R1=dual, R2=single RWD).
I posted my price and horsepower guestimates last week. Pleasantly surprised that I was less than $1000 off on all trims that have been leaknounced today. Glad to see that Rivian beat my RWD horsepower guess by a fair bit and saw fit match my number on the AWD non-performance.
