I have read about this “executed locally” thing before but have yet to discover anything RA can do locally. Is there something it can do without a cloud connection?
I specifically asked RA if it could just automatically read me incoming text messages so I didn’t have to do the 3-step text message dance:
Notice the tiny notification on the driver’s display
“Hey rivian”
“Read incoming text message”
Ray told me it could not do what I requested, it needs...
I am truly shocked at how many people can’t fathom living somewhere without cellular coverage. Every day I hop in the pickup and everything works because of my home WiFi, leave the driveway and some things stop working.
I do have connect plus because I like to run a hotspot for passengers. If...
Man, I’d just like it to work. Can’t even turn on the defroster without a cellular connection. You would think there would be enough hardware in the car to do simple vehicle-specific things locally as cars have been doing for years. That’s all I really wanted.
She couldn’t even find the...
Has anyone used a gap-filler on an R1 vehicle? The gap between seat and center console is just big enough to receive items but make it difficult to retrieve them. My R1t currently owns a chunk of ham, a half-eaten mint candy, at least 2 pencils, and my son’s lucky coin. Who knows what else is...
Do you have any idea where the controller is? I imagine in a worst-case scenario someone could remove the filter and blow it clean to at least help diagnose the situation. Or fab a bypass to use something else like a standard inline fuel filter if out of warranty and Rivian wants $500 for it.
I’m living in the countryside with solar, ev, and hardcore redneck neighbors. I’m fine.
But if I were in the city I’d know where the closest tractor-trailer lot is, so I could go grab one of those. Then drive to the local food-share warehouse where food banks buy supplies, think Costco x10 in...
I have BFG K03 which came on the vehicle. They are surprisingly great for general all/around use. Still very good off-road even in 22 inch, I have gone over some gauntlets of pretty large very slippery downed trees/branches and over a couple mudslides no problem. Pretty quiet on the highway even...
Interesting how many times retrospect tells us to check the simple things first. If only you had known there was a coolant filter in the system that could be plugged by debris from broken bits after a wreck. (where is it?)
If only tire swaps were as easy as touching the screen then this discussion might be a little different.
I’d like to drive in lowest with ps s5 tires at times, and it could replace a sports car of the larger variety (but not a little lightweight 2 seater) but most of the time I need the AT...
Puncture holes and dirt stains are not a sign of poor manufacturing. They are, however, indicators that excessive wear-and-tear on piping in adjacent are likely due to mistreatment.
“I never bothered to study the struts, but I assumed they were an air bladder type of design. Unless I missed something, this is built more like a pneumatic cylinder with O-Rings and no bladder?”
The air suspension part is a separate bladder from the hydraulic strut/shock/damper shown in this...
So many similarly-formatted Rivian horror stories popping up right when a lot of people are considering switching to an EV and Rivian is coming out with a new vehicle that will challenge existing EV manufacturers for market share.
I am not an automotive engineer or professional detailer but I have owned many vehicles ranging from 50 year old 150,000 mile plus to brand new luxury. What I see in many of those pictures looks like excessive wear and damage, not things falling apart. If there is uncleansable dirt adjacent to...
I couldn’t find much for the R1, ended up with something ill-fitting made for a Hyundai pickup. The only thing I could find that specifically fits Rivian is Wet Okole which is kinda pricey.
I seriously doubt any seat cover manufacturer has put their hands on an r2 yet.
Now I’m wondering what the bulk of the “leaking air drooping suspension” problems are due to: airbag itself leaking, o-ring leaking, or hose connection leaking. What kind of connection is between the air hose/airbag? A compression fitting or some sort of clip?
This also reflects on the discussion regarding peak charging rate. Current Ev owners understand that max battery capacity is not as important as max dcfc rate. All those people looking to replace their liquid fuel tanks with batteries have an experience where refueling rate is consistent between...
1st gen were released with hardware capable of specific planned features for which software was not yet ready. We have become used to feature-packed software updates.
R2 will be released with hardware incapable of specific planned features.
maybe make the car buying process much more simple...
You are displaying “The fundamental weakness of Western civilization”.
I’m still confused about the Bib term when used with respect to a Rivian. I’m wondering if a tech used that term and what component was being referred to.
In traditional ICE vehicles, a “battery isolation box” is a...
