Latest EV tax credit status (as of 12/30/22) - summary by NYT

Unless you had at least 5% on the table as non-refundable, the IRS will not consider what you signed to be a binding agreement. They issued guidance specifying that and other necessities (but only after the deadline to enter into such an agreement). Unfortunately a document titled "Binding...

lvl 2 to 100% vs DCFC - what's better for long term battery health?

Sitting at 100% is the critical factor - how it gets there doesn't make much difference. The last % points are at near L2 rates even on a DCFC. I understand your question to be should you charge to 100% or stop along the way to DCFC. I don't think there is a significant difference to battery...

The Max Pack Will Most Likely Be Canceled - IMO

Battery costs are about to increase - and I think it will be substantially. A small percentage of all of "Critical Minerals" and "Battery Components" will be able to meet the requirements that will come into play in a few months. Manufacturers that want to qualify for the Tax Credit will...

    IRS Guidance On Binding Agreement

The GAO estimates they will allow 11K EV Tax Credits in 2023 The IRS gets to hire 87,000 new agents Those facts taken together paint a bleak picture. Deliveries this year up until the point the guidance on battery minerals and components are issued are guaranteed - after that is is still a big...

Tax Credit Changes in new bill [LOCKED DUE TO POLITICS & ARGUING]

This Bill adds ~ $3B per year to Teslas bottom line and makes 90% of all EVs on the market more expensive for the US consumer. Tesla adjusts pricing to regulate demand and has raised prices as often as once a week to achieve this. Historically the have adjusted their pricing by about 80-90% of...

    Not liking one pedal driving

The OPD mapping in the Rivian could definitely use some work. It 's harder to drive smoothly than it needs to be. Also would have been nice if they put the systems in place to allow regen from the brake pedal - both in addition to a "softer" OPD mode and with a mode that functions nearly the...

When your Federal EV Tax Credit of $7,500 is worth much less ...

You reference "Tax Bill". Are you using that interchangeably with "Tax Liability"? It is not uncommon for people to believe they would otherwise need to be making a payment to the IRS of >= $7,500 when they file in order to take full advantage.

I've been in touch with @DuckTruck, and he's on board. Proposing the first ORiviot (not sure if that will stick or not ?‍♂️ ) meetup at the Drive Electric Earth Day (DEED) event in Wilsonville on April 23rd. The event has been late coming together with a fair amount of red tape to host it on...

Advice on the best universal wall charger

No reason you can't take a hardwired unit with you when you move. Using the Chargepoint Flex as an example, you take the cover off, flip 3 lever style clamps to release the wires (make sure the breaker is off), then remove the 2 lag bolts holding it to the wall. Done. Other units will likely not...

    Official Rivian Portable Charger Guide

I've never seen an adapter that allows an EVSE expecting 40 (or 50) A @ 240 V to function on an outlet supplying 30 A @ 120 V . You would have better luck adapting the 5-15 to TT30 since they are both designed for 120 V (but you would still get the same 12 A as when using the 5-15).

    Shareholder Lawsuit

Where are you finding this info? Everything I have seen was that an additional $1K per month for 2 years towards the purchase of a Rivian was part of a compensation package offered to some (many?) employees. This most definitely would be considered income for the employees and taxed accordingly...

Mixed Signals from Governments on EV Proliferation

Oregon has a sliding scale with fuel efficient vehicles paying more - the better the mpg (and less gas they buy), the more they pay. EVs are at the top of the scale and pay the most. Gas and EV owners have a "by the mile" option if they install a device in their vehicle to track usage. Break...

Texas Potentially selling my R1S upon arrival

While I don't believe anyone has asked, I find it unlikely that Rivian will provide only the MSO/MCO upon sale and not insist on issuing title in the buyers name. If Rivian granted you the MSO and you then provided it to a subsequent purchaser in order for them to register it as a new vehicle...

Texas Potentially selling my R1S upon arrival

Virtually every time anyone purchases a vehicle, they plan to resell it. Anyone here planning on holding on to their Rivian forever and never selling it? If that is not the case, then you are purchasing it with the intent to resell it. If never (re)selling your EV is a precondition on getting...

Max price in order to still get the federal electric car tax credit?

The proposed $80K limit was completely undefined as to what it was referring to. No mention of "base MSRP" was in any Bill proposed - only "MSRP" was referenced. If it would have passed, it would have then landed on the IRS to write the actual rules to implement what they interpreted the intent...

    Trade-In Process / Experience?

Reality dictates that companies like Rivian and Tesla that don't sell used cars have to buy below wholesale. They take/ship them to an auction where they get wholesale prices relevant at that moment based on the buyers buying and what other inventory has/will be available that day at the...
