If I diluted mine example, it would be in the same ballpark. I was reacting to the shipping cost relative to the product as FrankieJ reported above. Since I'm old and my olfactory sense is waning, the esthetic experience is not a factor. I just want it to do its job in the conditions I drive...
Here's the big picture explanation from Smarter Every Day:
The Backwards Brain Bicycle
It's about 8 minutes long, and watch it to the end, I think you won't regret it.
Thanks for elaborating much of what I left out. The frustration of no one knowing what was amiss and not pursuing a solution is maddening. I certainly hope someone from Rivian reads, understands, and takes action on this. That would be a true sign of customer service.
Preemptive apologies , this may be TL;DR. Perhaps someone may benefit from my frustrating experience. A proactive fix to this particular problem is quite simple.
I recently made an order through the Gear Shop. At check out I got an error message to the effect "Incorrect address...correct...
FWIW, to remove the plastic odor/taste in my "WOOTER", I searched extensively through various "recipes". What worked for me was this:
1. Rinse once with tap water. (maybe not necessary depending on your local water).
2. 1 cup white vinegar + 1 T. bleach + smidgen of Dawn.
3. Shake a few times...
100% agree, best vehicle in 55years of driving. Pics of camp set up in central OR this weekend: RTT w/ awning, 270 Overland awning, & NEW "WOOTER" (not visible in frunk).
To quote Blake (from the 18 century!):

When I had mine done, they related another Rivian job involving a tailgate and that it was quite an ordeal. Part of their problem was getting good info about the manufacture of the truck.
In Bend we have a "mom & pop" paintless dent shop, The Green UnDent Company (Tom & Chandra) that does a great job, too. I sent photos and they texted me with appointment times, came and got the truck (they also do remote work), and delivered the finished product within hours. Chandra took my LG...
FYI: Here's my "Fleet" of MTBs (29er, eMTB, & fatty) and shots of my rig setup, many options for most circumstances. 7 yo Hollywood rack (heavy beast but adapts to 1, 2, 3, 4 bikes, e-bikes, and fatties), Kuat Pivot, DaKine (modified with windows for better brake light visibility).

About 7 years ago I got the Hollywood rack for my truck when I retired and took to the road RVing for a year. Here's another link: https://hollywoodracks.com/collections/bike-rack-hitch/products/rv-rider
This rack is a solid brute and I've acquired accessories to expand it to 4 bikes (not...
In Oregon, accessible dispersed camping (FS and BLM land) is very common. To go and set up camp in one spot and for days you could not ride the same mountain bike trail twice. Not to mention hiking, climbing, fishing, SUP... the list goes on. One could camp (primitive) for 14 days, no fees...
This thread motivated me to set up my annex today, as a dry run. First I highly recommend a ground cloth. I have a 10X10 CGear, sand-free multimat, which is excellent. Keeps the annex clean as well at preventing tracking into the tent itself. It aids in packing everything away, too...
