If you are going to buy an R2, I’d wait until it gets everything updated like Lidar etc.
In your shoes, I would sell the R1S and be thankful you bought it right and didn’t take a bath. Then I would lease the launch R2. Take the $30k equity freed up and invest or use it elsewhere.
I'd say $2,000, maybe $2500 at the most for like a green or borealis, but I wouldn't pay $2,000 for black or white--those should be standard or like $1,000.
The way I look at a lease is will it be cheaper to lease or finance for say 2-3 years to determine if it’s good or not, assuming you have a single vehicle in mind.
Many vehicles lease better than others. Traditionally a BMW will lease better than say a Porsche with the same MSRP.
Say you have...
The R1S standard leases at $749 when you put $3500 down along with fees etc due at signing. This doesn’t include taxes so it’s a little misleading.
If I include taxes and change down payment to zero that same lease goes up by like $150 a month.
I don’t expect a great residual or money factor...
Very good price.
Those expecting the launch edition to be $45k were not living in reality.
Let’s see how this leases tomorrow, then I have some thinking to do especially since it comes in purple.
Yes we will see but at least initially no reason for Rivian to have a crazy good lease with demand expected.
For those who haven’t leased before, try to avoid putting a down payment (capital cost reduction) to lower payments because if the car is totaled or stolen, the lease ends and you have...
I think eventually the leases will be reasonable but agree for the first run this year there's no reason to subsidize leases.
My guess is they will gladly advertise a $599 a month lease in 10 days but the fine print will be like $7000 due at signing.
Good question. I'm interested in a 24 month lease so it'll be higher, but I've learned from past experiences (iX) that 36 months it too long for my car attention span.
Also have zero interest in the iX3.
Without any info at all I'm expecting it to be somewhere between $600-700 a month...
All manufacturers delay the cheaper trims when vehicles first come out. It doesn’t make sense to focus resources and time on less profitable models initially.
If you are RJ do you make the 20-25k R2’s this year a $60k vehicle or a $45k vehicle?
This may sound crazy but if the lease numbers are...
I agree I think people are overestimating how long the wait will be.
It seems like a fantastic vehicle but don’t forget how the EV market is in general.
My guess is a proportionally large number of reservation holders want it to cost $45k and it’s not going to for a long time.
Yeah I’m interested in the R2 because of how it looks and reportedly drives.
Counter to a majority of EV shoppers, I don’t care about charging times or range (within reason) because I always charge at home and never drive more than 100 miles in a day for a daily driver.
I also don’t care about...
Interesting. I used to daily a 2022 Ioniq 5 and a 2024 iX. Should feel right at home I guess.
My only Rivian experience is Turo-ing an R1T for a day to see what it was like 2+ years ago. I've made a reservation to demo an R1S later this week now that there's a service center in my area.
Interesting post thanks for sharing. I have an Ioniq 5 currently as my first EV and it's interesting to see the Venn diagram of owners who used to have Bolts and the Ioniq 5 is a "stretch" vehicle for them and others who who have the means to get whatever and bought an Ioniq 5 because of the...
It's really a genius way to conduct business and I'm surprised there are still companies with EVs who have not taken advantage of this. Hyundai started doing it in February finally.
All the changes do not apply to the commercial credit, which is why all the leasing loopholes exist since with leased vehicles the manufacturer gets the credit.
So MSRP price, country of manufacturer, customer income, etc all does not apply.
Mercedes, Hyundai and other manufacturers are using...
