I have been observing this a lot. Nerding out on stuff like is fun for me. I notice no difference in regen braking between Conserve and AP. However, I do notice a difference in regen when the battery is near full (85% or greater) and when the battery is cold.

My Juicebox 40amp showed 48amp then 15 amps. Later that day it smoked the internal relay. I'm almost certain it's due to the voltage dropping from the very old transformer in our building. Perhaps you have high voltage fluctuations at your current source.
