Aww man I thought I was the one to figure it out :(
https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/2025-r1t-premium-audio-your-subwoofer-is-out-of-phase.51724/
As sound bounces around the cabin (reflects), it will change phase. Also, depending on the frequency, since one speaker is further from you than another, when the wave hits your ear, they are slightly misaligned. So, one wave might be at the peak while the other is not. This is harder to...
Its possible it could be measuring out of phase for alignment based on position, but if you used the phone in the same spot... wouldn't it show them IN phase?
I think they can fix this via software, and as tempting as it is to swap around the door wires to test this, I can say that I am "happy...
Well... I HAVE noticed that at high volumes, the soundstage shifts to the center.... it could be related. These things can be hard to be sure about. Not sure if anyone else has noticed, or its just me... but at 25+ you don't get the nice stereo imaging, everything sort of muddies and shifts...
Exactly. I wonder too if they perhaps tested this with the mic in the very middle of the cabin or something, and perhaps it does sound better from wherever they tested it?
Phase can be hard to test (from my experience), sometimes reverse phase IS desired, especially for a sub. Depending on acoustics and reflection and which way its facing.
But I gotta admit I am surprised Rivian missed on this. Especially after so many complaints about the quality of the...
Exactly. Especially at high volume (>20).
Not hearing a difference either way could mean something else entirely (is the sub even working, for example?).
I'd say the easiest way to tell is if the bass gets worse/muddier when you turn the volume up or if it sounds better with the eq adjusted with the bass frequencies turned down, then the phase is reversed.
Yep, I was going to squeeze in a JL 10", but got laid off so cancelled that idea. I still wouldn't mind a 10", but it's far less pressing now. I agree it sounds like it should. Id rate it a 6/10, with my old meridian at maybe an 8/10. It WAS a 3/10 before, especially at high volumes. I...
Lots of nasty software bugs. The most annoying and prevalent was Bluetooth audio didn't work. That means when someone called us we couldn't hear them and had to quickly switch to speaker. But we would get a ton of sensor errors, sos system errors, air conditioning problems, memory seats never...
Would you be willing to try this fix and test it again! I really would love to see the difference: https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/2025-r1t-premium-audio-subwoofer-out-of-phase.51724/post-886466
Just finished returning our 2025 EX90. Lease buy back. The car drove SO nicely, but was just such a hot mess full of really spooky bugs. Rattles and wind noise to boot.
Can't recommend. I hope they are able to fix the bugs, cause it really drove so well.
That's a tough one. It's more noticeable at higher volumes I have found, especially over 24.
You want something where there is decent midbass and deep bass. I listen to a lot of Justice, Daft Punk, and RHCP and all of it seems to sound a lot better. RCHP might be the best to test, since the...
Writeup for anyone interested in trying this, including pics for the visual learners out there. FYI I still am very happy with how it sounds.
TURN YOUR AUDIO DOWN, AND STOP THE MUSIC FROM PLAYING. Technically you should disconnect the 12V, but honestly if there is no voltage across the wires...
I was thinking the same thing, but I didn't check. Its possible to swap them without damaging them, but there is always a risk. I will post some pics of the whole process tomorrow if I get time.
If others were out of phase it would be harder to tell, you might have imaging strangeness but not necessarily the same sort of interference that you get with the sub. Its easier to tell with bass. It's possible they could be out of phase but I don't think so.
