Illinois dealers lose lawsuit to halt Rivian, Lucid direct sales
A judge ruled that officials were correct in granting dealer licenses to the EV makers despite objections from the Illinois Automobile Dealers Association.

In a Dec. 19 ruling, Associate Judge David Atkins ruled the Illinois Secretary of State was correct in issuing dealer licenses to Rivian and Lucid in 2021, as it previously had done for Tesla Inc. The state's dealer association argued that only third-party franchisees may be licensed to sell new vehicles under state laws and regulations.

It was a pretty ridiculous lawsuit. Rivian employees a lot of people directly and indirectly in Illinois so that was a slap in the face to any resident.

I took note of every dealer that was on the lawsuit when it was first filed. I will never buy any parts/service or purchase a vehicle from them again. Luckily my favorite Chevy dealer didn't participate.

Laws like this are the result of certain entities paying off crooked politicians to give them favorable treatment.

The Chicago Tribune is now reporting that the Illinois Automobile Dealers Association filed an appeal today (Jan. 13) to the December ruling.

Excerpt from the Tribune article:
“We think the law is pretty clear: You can’t be a manufacturer and a dealer,” said Joe McMahon, executive director of the Illinois Automobile Dealers Association. “The Illinois Vehicle Code basically states that you have to go through franchised dealers.”
