Really cool article explaining the thought and intentions going into all the sounds our vehicles make: https://stories.rivian.com/sounds-of-rivian

I'm assuming they used a dying frog to model whatever sound my door makes every time I open it (native to North America, of course).

I wish the warning sound my Rivian made was more like the one in the first video.

Also, my bird chirp seems piercing loud. It’s jarring at close range when in front of the vehicle. I thought that was just the way it was designed but when we had a loaner R1T a few weeks ago, the chirp on that one seemed much more mellow. Anyone else experience this?

I actually heard a bird chirp that sounded just like by R1 and I was genuinely confused as I was no where near my car (or any other R1). I loved it. I think it's really cool thing Rivian have done.

I have also heard bluebirds chirping when I’ve been near the truck and it’s a pretty close match. I like knowing the truck has locked as I walked away but have always turned off the horn honk feature on all my other trucks because I hate it. The bird chirp is much preferable.

My loaner had the same chirp sound and volume as my own R1T but I wouldn't describe it as mellow (like in the video). Everyone should experience a loaner, it's the best way to evaluate what is "normal"!

I assume the speaker is in the front? It can be a bit jarring close up but I'm glad it's loud enough so I can hear it when I'm 50 feet away and it locks up. On my other cars, I usually wait until I'm far away before locking, the horns can be even louder.

The blue bird is cool but I really want the owl they enabled for Halloween.

TURN SIGNAL SOUND

I don't care what they say. I am firmly convinced that the turn signal sound is that of a fingernail tapping on the bottom of an empty plastic Solo Cup (specifically a Red Solo Cup).
Now that you've read this...you won't be able to un-hear it (you're welcome) :angry::CWL:

I thought this was cute, but I would've preferred they spend a little more time/energy making the truck more aerodynamic w/ less wind-drag than on these sounds. Plus I wish they would give us the option to change the sounds....like a ringtone.

I don’t think people realize how aero dynamic these R1 vehicles actually are. Here was a simulation to compare the .30 CD claim. They are huge vehicles so there are limits to how low they can go without compromising interior space. I can attest that on the maiden 5k voyage in my R1S I averaged 2.21 miles per KW, in my Tesla Model S I usually get 3.0 miles per KW.

I suspect that many of the sounds were equally influenced by the existence of a deadline.

Maybe they are aerodynamic, but they have a TON of wind noise when driving. I suspect it's the mirrors, windows and seams, which aren't tight

I don't think you want the people who wrote this article building your R1S.

You should try to track it down and try to fix it. I do not hear anymore wind noise in my R1S than I do in my Model S. It is pretty quite for me and out of the 5500 miles I have probably 5k ate highway miles. If it is excessive and it gets fixed you will probably get better efficiency.

A couple of places people have identified wind issues are the small triangle windows on the front doors and the trim at the top of the window-shield.
