Alexa won't send text messages

I have found Alexa to be useful in the vehicle for choosing audio services, opening the hood/rear hatch, etc., but when I ask Alexa to send a text message to someone in my contacts, she responds with "You will have to connect to Bluetooth to enable this feature". I am obviously already connected to Bluetooth because I'm able to unlock and drive the car, plus I use music apps on my phone to send music to the vehicle. Has anyone else experienced this and has anyone found a solution?

Rivian’s version of Alexa hasn’t gone to school for that. Just tell her she’s pretty.

Not enabled in any of our vehicles.
