I can personally attest that 80 year olds are just as unpredictable (as are 50 yrs olds thinking they're still 18 .... not me, of course )

Noisemakers weren't required in 2012. My 2014 Tesla and my 2015 BMW i3 both lack noisemakers.

Funny thing is my 2004 Prius had a reverse beep - audible only inside the cabin, not outside! (I disabled it with some button combination jiggery-pokery.)

my 2011 leaf had the beeper for back up, but had a button turn off, think 2013 or later the button went away and you had to hack it - or in your awesome engineering jiggery-pokery... I'm 50/50 on the ring beep at low speeds back up, cause maybe a good idea, cause people get to be oblivious about surrounds, but also, am I responsible, when your face is in the phone, or walking inattentively...but yea the Rivian should have an off-road beeper stop. I mean you're wheeling and you want to listen for the guy in the jeep stuck cause they didn't know what 4WD-LOW is.
