Are the temperature thresholds for regenerative braking overly conservative?

My perception is that regen has gotten more sensitive to temps over the last few months. I do a lot of mountain driving and it seems that everyday I get a reduced regen alert at some point. Originally that never happened..

It’s not a massive problem for me but I have noticed it.

In my last couple of trips into the mountains, I got the limited regen warning after going 1/2-1 miles down a grade. It was not the least bit cold outside, I had been driving for a bit, and both times the battery was at less than 50%. So, I was surprised by this. Yesterday, I was descending about 2500’ in 5-6 miles. When the regen decided to check out or, at least, minimize greatly. It was hard to tell but it was still working somewhat as evidenced by the fact that I added 2% to the battery and 7 miles of estimated range by the end of the descent. Other than these types of situations, the regen has been flawless and it immediately reverted to normal once I hit the flatlands. BTW, I was in high regen mode. I, too, was wondering if switching into Standard regen mode might be better in these types of situations. I’ll reach out to Rivian and see what they say.

I had a spare tire delivered this morning. I mentioned to him the reduction in regen when going down a long grade. He said that is normal. When using High Regen, the vehicle will shift down to Standard Regen when battery conditions dictate. My guess is it could even go down into the Snow Mode level of reduced regen, if necessary. Therefore, if one is used to using High Regen, there is probably no advantage to switching to Standard for those long downhills. The Rivian will do that automatically.
