Buyback expectations

Can anyone who has gone through a buyback offer insight into their experience.

Short version is I'm Lemon Law eligible, have a formal complaint pending, but have been working through the local Service and Warranty Rep at Rivian to have the Buyback discussion before going through the more formal arbitration and lawsuit process. Trying to be civil in an effort to expedite things.

This said, for those who have gone through a Rivian buyback, what is the process like? Truck initially failed on day one of delivery. Should I expect all of my lease payments returned, all expenses incurred in purchasing, and no adjustment for mileage used? (given first failure was with less than 10 miles of ownership?)

Will they buy back accessories purchased through the gear shop? (which will become valueless to me)

I hope to have an offer in hand in a week, but before accepting or rejecting would like to get a feel for expectations. Happy to talk via PM or on the phone if you prefer not to share your experience in the open.

For lemon law generally, the manufacturer gives you a check for the purchase price of the vehicle minus mileage and wear and tear. You would be responsible for paying off any loans with that check. Since you're on a lease, the process might be a little different - they could just pay the lease off and the amount you've paid for the lease will be forfeit. You may receive a check for the time the vehicle was out of your possession and you weren't provided a loaner. The manufacturer will almost certainly not buy back any accessories you purchased, especially if they weren't purchased while you were configuring the vehicle.

Not sure what Rivian specifically will do for you, but I would expect something between being made whole and robbed enough to justify hiring a lawyer. But if you roll that buyout into a new lease or purchase, I'm sure you will receive a much better deal (and plus, all those accessories you purchased won't be useless anymore!)

Rivian did reimburse for accessories .

I wish we had statistics for the number of failures and buybacks per model year or quarter.

I have an R2 reserved and I know it’s a completely different vehicle but it’s concerning. R1T/S have been out for years yet we see failures periodically and even after years of ownership.

I usually wait for year two of a new model to purchase to work out large bugs but this doesn’t seem to have an effect with Rivian?
