CA DMV renewal work around

If you didn’t know majority of the Rivian’s in California will not automatically get the renewal notification in the mail.

I have spoken to Rivian and it appears it’s a glitch in CA DMV system. So they suggested go into the DMV or AAA. I despise both options.

Got the DMV on the phone yesterday and they walked me through a work around called a “complex renewal” you fill out a bunch of paper work online and they send you a link to pay online.

This is definitely going to catch some people off guard. Mine was regeistered in March 23 and still shows an error in their system. Do you think that the "complex renewal" method puts it on the right track to get a renewal letter next yer?

You could call now and they might be able to fix it. Mine was so close to renewal that they said they couldn’t do it. I was amazed by the call back system the have. Mind you I called at 11am and they said I would get a call back at 545pm. Right at 545 got a call and they were helpful.

I literally filled it out today. Once finished I got an e-sign document as the weight of the truck makes it commercial. So far that’s where I at in the process…. Hopefully the link comes soonish. I’m 45 days out from expiring. I’m head to Mexico for two weeks and dropping my rivian off at the San Jose for service.

Side note/Pro tip - service center is right next San Jose airport lined up service to start same day as vacation. Free secure long term parking and they fix my truck.

Thank you. I got the initial automated response, but waiting on next steps from DMV. Maybe something will show up tomorrow. The SJ SC is in a rough neighborhood, good thing the yard is fenced.

I've did the same service/parking thing at South SF service center when I went to Vegas and Moab for 10 days last month.

After 6 calls(begging) I got an appt for them to fix my GPS issue after the last update. Very easy to get to SFO and back and not pay for parking when your truck is being serviced.

I just randomly called them once and they were easy to make the appt. They have been harassing me monthly. I have tik tok creak in my half shaft, broken cover, and a bunch of other small stuff. I’m just hoping two weeks enough. Most likely they will accept us using them as a free parking service, compared to them paying for a rental car. Win win for both of us.

Wow - my original appt at SSF was over 6 weeks out when I originally called in early April (appt was early June!). After all that begging they fit me in thankfully.

Every pickup truck in the state of California is a commercial vehicle. Weight has no relevance.
