CA DMV renewal work around

I submitted my online renew on Thursday. Still haven't heard back. Getting a little nervous. I called AAA they said they wouldn't help me since it was a commercial vehicle. I explained to the agent all pick up trucks in CA are registered as commercial vehicles. She told me I will have to deal with the DMV direct. If I don't hear back via email in a few more days I will make a trip to the DMV.

Did you get the weight certification document? I’m guessing you should get it today or tomorrow. You can also put a call into the dmv and they are quite helpful.

I just checked my email and it was there waiting for me. For the weight selection I selected below 10,000lbs option and signed the document. I’m shocked the renew was more than the registration. 1,138.00 ouch.

Just got an e-mail this morning saying that my payment was processed and that Vehicle Registration Renewal was successfully processed. E-mail goes on to say that i should receive my documents in approximately 21 business days. So overall not bad, thanks for the heads up OP!

Of note, when i went through the process i said my vehicle was NOT a commerical vehicle to avoid having to submit a weight certification document (pickup trucks are suppose to be exempte from that form). My thinking was they're mannually assigning this to someone so hopefully they'll be smart enough to figure it out which appears they were (hopefully). I guess we'll see if i get my sticker or not!

I'm about 2 weeks into the virtual help desk process. I submitted the initial app then a they asked for payment and I submitted it. Now they are asking for a certification of GVW rating to be completed. I'll submit this today. Between each interaction with the DMV it takes 3+ days for them to respond on the next step. At this point I will continue this process, but next time I will skip the virtual DMV and go to AAA.

The person you dealt with at AAA was clueless. they have helped me with my trucks.

Finally received an email today that my registration renewal is complete. Last email said I should receive associated paperwork (I assume that means tags) in 21 days. Good thing my reg is good until the end of June. All in all it wasn't difficult to do, the waiting for a response was the worst part. But... next year will be a trip to AAA.

When I called the DMV they said the fixed the issue on their side and I would be getting a renewal letter in the mail.

Just found this thread today. Mine was due in September and I did not receive renewal. Fingers crossed for 2024 fix. Mine was slightly higher than what I'm seeing for others $1209. Oof.

I think whatever issue CA DMV had it may be resolved. I got my notice last week for the renewal of my R1S purchased January 2023.

Went online, paid the $975 renewal and got my updated registration and sticker yesterday.

Mine expires this month and I haven’t received anything and I can’t even do a change of address because it says my vehicle info doesn’t match… not sure what to do!

Do you have AAA? You can go there and renew with their DMV services.
