Good, because the R2 is a crossover. The MY is more of a hatchback. Both have inflated their classifications for marketing purposes.

But the R2 designed is more inspired by SUVs. Kind of like a bronco sport compared to an escape.
For vast majority of owners, both the R2 and MY will spend their entire times on pavement doing the same things—commuting, going shopping, roadtrips. The whole off-roading thing is an aspirational story that Rivian is trying to sell.

And, you can camp well in either vehicle, as most campsites people visit are easily accessible and paved. Overland camping is done by very few people, and I’d argue both the R2 and MY have too small of battery packs to confidently go somewhere really remote and come back with enough range.

I don’t love Tesla either. I’ll never buy another fascist mobile and I avoid superchargers. But, the MY’s numbers are the numbers.

I’m here because I own two Rivians currently and it’s informative to share my experience with others, and my learning from the community. But, after over three years with the Rivian brand, I’m not sure if I’m going to get another Rivian. There seems to be plenty of people who feel the same way, so I’m not an outlier.
To each is own I guess, I had a Tesla before and loved it, but hated how many were on the roads, and just wanted something different so I got the R1T, picking up a R2 today. But I would buy a Tesla in a heartbeat because of the owner, not the other way around. I wish people put stickers on their Teslas that said, "I bought this before I knew ELON loved America"
