For vast majority of owners, both the R2 and MY will spend their entire times on pavement doing the same things—commuting, going shopping, roadtrips. The whole off-roading thing is an aspirational story that Rivian is trying to sell.Good, because the R2 is a crossover. The MY is more of a hatchback. Both have inflated their classifications for marketing purposes.
But the R2 designed is more inspired by SUVs. Kind of like a bronco sport compared to an escape.
And, you can camp well in either vehicle, as most campsites people visit are easily accessible and paved. Overland camping is done by very few people, and I’d argue both the R2 and MY have too small of battery packs to confidently go somewhere really remote and come back with enough range.
