I'd take that bet. Tesla doesn't sell a $40k model 3 with 250 miles of range. We think they can sell a $40k truck with 2X the batteries and is significantly larger? I don't. It screws up their entire lineup costs.
But not everybody's going to want to live with a cyber truck day to day. Even if it's cheaper, I don't think it's going to do anything to hurt the sales of their other vehicles.

People get enamored with range, and trucks sell better than cars. I always found their CT pricing baffling compared to the rest of their lineup, and if they try to push out a $40k with 250+ miles, I'll still be confused.

Personally I think most people were buying the model 3 because they couldn't get a model Y. And a lot of people are buying a model Y because they didn't have a more traditionally sized SUV or Truck. Americans like big toys.

I thought their manufacturing cost savings were due to the stainless steel and not having to paint it and not having to paint different colors and stamping out most of the frame and body panels, using the battery pack as part of the structure etc etc.

That low base price was also before he felt like he needed to add all wheel steering and other things as well. So who knows what the released version will be cost wise and/or any smaller base model they add later on. I think the biggest problem is they're selling everything they can make and he's got too many things going on at the same time.

I think it is not as much about if Tesla can sell a lower priced CT as it is a question of if they will. Even today, I know people that say they are not interested in an EV for their next car, they are interested in a Tesla. Their demand don’t seem do go away and which business would put their resources in low margin low profit products when they canā€˜t produce enough of high margin ones. Recent Tesla price increases is not as much about the increase in their cost as it is about increase in demand. They sell at higher price, because they can. It will not be any different for CT.

Like some members I have a reservation for both vehicles. I need to see more details on the CT before making a decision.

I hope Tesla announces updated MSRP’s and specs by the end of this year. The Cybertruck is going to disrupt both the ICE and BEV pickup truck segment.

Tesla designers must be starting to see they've fallen behind and they're playing catchup … : )

Funny, my dream vehicle takes all of these elements and combines them into a single vehicle. Call it whatever you will, if they can build that mix I'm buying.

Features don’t equal soul. I have yet to drive any Tesla that makes me feel anything other than hollow.

How does that collection of features remotely compare to the Homer?
It’s all I could think of after you listed all those features. I suppose it doesn’t match except that they both look ridiculous IMO. Truthfully I just love the episode ?ā€ā™‚.

DISCLAIMER: I have 2 day one Cybertruck orders… ?

Fair enough! I dig the look personally (of the Cybertruck, not the Homer), but to each their own. I think most folks here would be ecstatic if Rivian offered 800v charging, 4-wheel steering, and a mid-gate, at least as options.

Hummer EV does not have a mid-gate and Cybertruck has a larger bed and more storage compartments. Electric Silverado has a mid-gate and gives over 10ft of bed length that way.

It will be interesting to see if Tesla adds 800V capability with the new structural packs and 4680 tab-less cells. They could do it but their charging infrastructure isn't set up for it, so kinda not a huge priority for them at the moment I guess. The new card could already support it and we wouldn't know if they have it software-limited for now.

Can someone explain the appeal of a midgate on a 100k luxury ā€œtruckā€ with a vegan cow leather interior? Why the hell do I want to stuff plywood into my cabin? So it can hear the meridian sound system?

If anyone is going to add features that don’t amount to any amount of genuine value, it’s going to be the people responsible for the Pontiac Aztec or the people who allow you to change your horn to a fart.
