You've only had your truck in the winter. Some of the data that you're seeing from others is from people in warm climates like LA.

You're in MD so just wait until spring/summer. Also, if you're only doing short drives in cold weather you'll never hit high efficiency because the battery needs to warm up. You can use the left thumb buttons (hold down left/right buttons on the left side of the steering wheel) to pull up the live performance info. In cold weather, I tend to find that it takes ~60 minutes of driving before the battery is actually up to temperature (depending on starting temp).
Agreed. I just got my R1T and I notice a big difference in efficiency on a half-hour trip to town vs coming back. The truck sits outside most of the time so the battery is relatively cold to start.

Here’s a dumb question, but does it use a ton more energy to race to say, 50mph than it does to accelerate slowly to 50mph with an EV? I’m assuming it does and it would be a curve right?
I don't have the slightest clue...F=MA doesn't it? Someone smarter than me will have to further convert that..

So this inspired me to “hyper-mile” sort of. 20” AT tires, DIY tonneau, healthy lunch, 15 minute nap, Conserve mode, ride height lowest, suspension stiff, regen high, tire pressure 48psi, temp 28F, 4 lane divided boulevard, speed limit 35 to 50, Tune-In radio on channel Chill. 20 mile out and back course

Started out at 1.13 m/kw, spirited driving yesterday :) After 5 miles efficiency started creeping up. Combination of Conserve mode and battery warming up. After 10 miles on the outbound leg (into the wind) was getting 2.1 m/kw. On the way back, average was 2.72 mi/kw with a few peaks over 3 going downhill and downwind.

The area I live in is perfect for EV’s, except for the cold. I doubt I could drive like that everytime I got in the truck anyway. If I did, I should just get an Insight

Thanks for doing that! So it definitely looks like battery warmup plays a big part in efficiency. And the only way to do that, other than driving it around for a bit, would be to either change the charging schedule (making it finish charging right before you leave) or jump into the truck, change the charging max level, and set the nav to the closest charging station correct?

The ability to precondition the truck would be a welcome update!

How are people getting over 2 kWh per mile?? We got our R1T right before Christmas and we had fun with the truck for the first couple weeks but otherwise drive like civilized people. In mostly AP/low mode (20% Sport, 80% AP), we averaged 1.68 over the first 1,800 miles. The last 100 miles have been in Conserve/low and average 1.7. The climate in the truck is set to 68 usually and we charge to 70% every night. Last night I actually turned climate off and made every effort on the 4 miles each way to the store and back to try and get the highest efficiency I could and only averaged 1.98 over the 8 mile round trip. ?

I know there are a ton of variables from driver to driver, but should I ask service to run a diagnostics or something? I’m just happy to see some people getting much better efficiency so I know it’s atleast possible! ? What’s the secret??
My solution is to not pay any attention to efficiency and just enjoy the smooth quiet beautiful beast. We are driving the greatest machine on 4 wheels in the history of mankind. Embrace it!

I have an r1t with 21” and a
yakima like rtt. I do a lot of short trips and I
live on a hill. I have a hard time getting over 2 and I almost always use just conserve mode.

Unsolicited experience being shared. Here we go. Backstory: I've owned EV's for years (BMW i3's, Tesla M3P) and range has way too many factors to "reliably" count on. Those factors include: temperature, tire pressure settings, load inside of the car, freeway vs city driving etc. Super bowl commercial was beyond funny as well. What I"ve learned to accept. My range is dependent mainly upon my HEAVY foot. I love living between 75-85 mph on LA freeways. At those speeds I have much less range than if I drove like an old grandma. I charge over night due a
TOU meter from my electric company. I charge to 85% except for two days a month when I go to 100%. I seldom let my remaining charge go below 35%. I always leave my car connected while charging to avoid phantom drain. Most of all, I understand that these number are "RANGES". They are NOT promised. Once you are able to pivot your mind and accept that what you are seeing is a range estimate, you can plan accordingly. The joy of never having to stop at a gas station and pay for gas far supersedes range anxiety on my R1S. Every day every way.
It really cracks me up with all of the range anxiety people worrying or complaining about it. My only complaint is that I wish, ,truly wish that Rivians charge network was remotely close to as good as Tesla's. That's the only thing that in my opinion needs to be better. And sadly that will NOT happen anytime soon. In the meantime, I make sure I charge at home as needed.
