Esker Silver R2 vs. LA Silver R1S - comparison pic

1. Does LA Silver have no flake? I thought i read that once but can’t remember.

2. Is ES with or without flake?

Both are metallic paints. Both have metallic flakes. What is different is composition of base paint and perhaps the flakes too and even tint of clear coat is possible (however slight). Esker has warmer tone. LA is cooler, more neutral. And Esker has greater contrast/depth between light and dark. Take official images as the gold standard, since those images have gone through hours of editing and numerous reviews and approvals. However, understand other images you see online can look different because of different lighting conditions and environments. Plus, the different color calibrations of different cameras and display screens. Even displays from two identical devices can be mismatched.

This image would have been more informative if the R1S was lined up behind the 2, and receiving light in relatively same angles. As is, the R1 is lit more than the 2, not just from the sun or bounce from the ground, but also from light reflecting off of the unseen side of the 2. Just to illustrate the things you need to keep in mind as you look at images for color. Not a critique of photography.

Advertising AD here who have spent years and many nights directing and managing color reproduction for a few OEMs. Metallic paints are a pain in our biz because they can be so different from one location to another and even different season or time of day.

A friend of mine shot OEM stills for years - mostly BMW's and especially BMW motorbikes... this was in the earliest days of photoshop and all proofing and correction was still done analog/on paper. Chasing away reflections etc he says was one of the most stressful/least enjoyable parts of his job.

And today with AI infused editing tools, what once took hours, to remove or clean up, takes seconds. People are losing jobs left and right. I know a few prominent ones who simply gave up and decided it is time to retire.
