The conversation usually goes like this:
"Do you wan't the extendend warranty"
"No"
"Why not"
"Because if it were more to my benefit than yours you wouldn't be offering it"
"Tell that to the guy who was in here last week for the $7000 transmission job"
"Sure - send him in"
We tried to reason with the guy when we bought our Sprinter.

"Let's say, generously in your favor, 1 in 10 vans have a transmission failure after 60k and before 100k miles. That's a 10% chance you'll pay out $10k, so your extended warranty is worth, at most, $1000."

It just wound up being like 2 hours of arguing with the guy.

So, yeah... Very much looking forward to not sitting through that ever again.

"No" is a complete sentence. Don't argue with sales people. They're trained to keep you talking and to overcome objections. As long as you're giving "reasons" they think it's fair game to try to convenience you your reasons are wrong.

If you have questions, ask them. But once you've made up your mind just say so. Your reasons are your own, and they need not be justified to anyone else.

No was followed by "why?" or "how low to change your mind?", but you're right that we fell into the trap and weren't helping ourselves by answering.

“If you’re not ready to sell a vehicle, today, then we’re happy to explore our options elsewhere.”

In any case you aren't going to get that pitch from Rivian nor will they try to sell you undecoating.
Wait one minute...are they going to give me the coating???? I have been conditioned to believe that water will destroy the undercarriage and air/ sun will make the paint melt off if you don't get the magical coating installed.

Now I am second guessing my purchase and may have to apply my own protection. Here is a link for anyone interested in what I will use for water protection (link).
