Further, I had to try multiple units before I found one where the magic dock would “unlock“ and come out with the NACS connector.
That's really odd-are you pushing in before you pull the adapter out? It will usually not release if you don't do this.

Yes, I did and I had someone else try in case it was “just me” doing it wrong. It looks like on PlugShare I wasn’t the only one having the issue.

Side note: It’s a big combo to deal with too once you get it out and get it into the charge port with no extra slack. The adapter pre connected to the R1T’s port will be much easier to deal with in the future.

Weird--maybe disgruntled Tesla owners are supergluing the adapter into the dock. :CWL:

Hopefully they will let you use the untethered adapters at the magic dock stations as a fall back in these situations.

I'm wondering if it's more of a design issue with the V4 pedestals. These new stations this year are the first (? citation needed) v4 pedestal based stations with magic docks possibly. They looked a bit worn already when trying to get it to release. Maybe this station is just unlucky and got a bad batch of springs/locks. Plugshare at the Columbia, SC location isn't showing any issues, so could be isolated.

Yesterday I was out for my son’s birthday. Drove all over the place and found my truck at 19% SoC with a decent distance left to drive home. Fortunately there was a relatively new Tesla Supercharger, at nearby Northglenn, CO, with a Magic Dock. So I set it on my nav to begin preconditioning and headed that way.

The biggest PITA was setting up payment. It showed that ApplePay was setup but it wouldn’t take it so I had to manually enter in my card info. After that, everything go easy. I just entered the charging unit number, unplugged the cable and adapter from the magic dock and plugged it into my truck.

I went from 19 to 50% SoC in 17 minutes. No technical issues at all. At it’s best, the charger was putting out 212kW of power. The price was a whopping $0.43 per kWH. Very pricey compared to charging at home but I was impressed with the speed.

All in all, I want more Tesla Supercharger access YESTERDAY. I’m tired of Electrify America’s horse crap.

That’s crazy expensive paying $21 basically for 125 miles. That comes out to more than you would pay with a car getting 20 mpg at $3gal. This is why people really need to understand that charging outside your house is the same if not more expensive than filling up a gas vehicle and far less convenient. Not saying this towards you but the general public who somehow think they save money on gas by buying an EV. Will be nice when we have full supercharger access but even when I owned a Tesla I rarely used superchargers.
