My only minor nitpick about the charging port flap was I wish it would lock when the vehicle locked.

Yeah it is true is doesn’t lock. I read that the actual charging handle locks when the car is locked. Is there a reason why locking the door is useful? We’ve had a bmw i3 since 2014 and it doesn’t lock either so I guess we are used to that and haven’t had any issues.

I mean, you don't want a ne'er do well to come by with a hose and siphon off your charge or, even worse, put sugar in your battery.

no good reason. Just habitual. With gas tanks in certain neighborhoods, vandalizing gas was a thing. Never been an issue for me but it’s kinda welded in my head it should lock.

Thanks for the great information. I personally would love to see some of the photos as I’m on the fence between the 20’s and 21’s with Half Moon and may help me to see some more photos in the real world.

When I plugged in the R2 at home for the first time I could not get the charger to unlock. Spent an hour trying different things, soft reboot, hard reset both did not release the charger, nor disconnecting the charger from power. Then removed the trunk tub to pull the manual switch and was able to remove the charger... so glad I was not at a DCFC with an audience watching me man handle the charger a dozen times.

It now works fine, it appears that it was just "stuck" in the lock position and the motorized release wasn't enough torque to unstick it. Once it started working it worked like it should and you could hear the mechanical lock locking and releasing.

The charge port was also very tight (tried three different chargers), I am hoping it losens up a bit over time with usage.

I suspect the "Max" 650A rating is what the components such as the cable and connectors and internal switches, etc., are capable of handling for brief periods, but the "Rated" 500A rating is all the electronics will allow (brief transients above this notwithstanding). That is, I think this is a 500A max charger.

I but lack of pet mode on the BMW was a bigger issue.

I have an i4 right now and I just use the app to start the climate when I take my dog with me. It will run for 30 minutes, keeping her cool while I run my errand. It couldn't be easier. I'm not trying to push you toward the iX3, just providing an option.

You could be right - I was just assuming it based on the label and what Tom said on state of charge re the CCS charger (label below) he used in his 10-80% R2 charging video. He said he used the CCS since it did 600 amps for short periods of time and he ended up melting pin on his adapter.

They do help, thanks! This is the first photo I've seen with a front license plate holder. I assume that is Rivian's, and they drilled into the bumper to mount it for you?

I'm in the purchasing process for my Esker Silver R2, and Rivian asked if I wanted them to do that; it's hard to decide if you want them to or if you'd rather get a snapplate or something when you've never seen it.

It is the standard license plate holder installed by rivian service. Let me know if you want a closeup photo of that. We had LA silver on our R1S and R1T and it takes a bit of getting use to the darker color. I think Esker Silver will be a very nice intermediate option but I didn’t want to wait and extra month or two.

Yeah I know about that but it doesn’t display any kind of of “pet is safe and comfortable message” on the screen.

More or less. Rated current is the continuous current allowed for an extended period. The max rating means it can pull 650 amps for a short period of time, which is what R2 requests at a low state of charge for max 5-10 minutes.
