Fremont, CA to Sedona, AZ and back in first R1T road trip

This is our first road trip in the R1T (20" AT tires) aside from trips to Tahoe.

I had done some research beforehand to avoid the worst chargers on Plug share, so our trip wasn't optimized.

Left in Saturday around 11, and drove to Barstow to sleep at the Comfort Inn (which I strongly recommend NOT to do). Stopped at Gilroy, Kettleman and Mojave. I wanted to avoid Bakersfield chargers since u read that they were always busy. Topped off for the night at the RAN in Barstow.

Day 2, stopped at Needles, Kingsman RAN, and Williams to top off before final climb towards Flagstaff. Our Airbnb was in Village of Oak Creek so a mile from the Sedona RAN, which was quite practical for the week.

Sedona was very enjoyable this time of year with temps in low 80s. Did not do any OHV trail in the truck but rented a UTV for that. Just drove the trail to the Honanki cave dwellings.

The PTC was super handy to keep the bike safe during the trip. Obligatory bike pic:

We did the return leg in one day. Left Saturday at 5:00AM and arrived at 7:00PM. 7 stops: Williams, Kingsman, Essex, Barstow, Mojave, Kettleman and Gilroy for a quick top up (could have been avoided if I charged another 5mns at Kettleman). I did not optimize the charging stops but all of them lasted less than 20mns, except Kettleman (23). Speeds were allegedly about 9 over the limit. Did not have any charging issue, except at the RAN in Barstow because 3 of us were sharing a charger (1A, 1B and 1C) which limited charging to 100KW. Promptly moved to 2B and got full speed. Other charging issue was at the last stop in Gilroy: one charger was unavailable and all 7 were full (Saturday 5:30pm). Waited a few mins for a free spot, and got full charge for a few minutes. Then it derated to 45KW. I only needed an extra 30 miles of range anyway, so no big deal.

Driver plus worked great for the trip, with the occasional "freeway not mapped" where I had to take over. Going over the Tehachapi pass, I took over since it was too slow in the long sweeping turns, plus the truck is so much fun to drive anyway...

Overall, a great trip. Looking forward to many more.

That Mojave charger is a right squeeze with those metal polls!

Disappointed the gilroy charger is still charging slow.
