Front Sensors

Hi,
I have a numberplate holder attached to the tow hook, which worked fine (with the paper/plastic temporary plates), but received the metal CA plates today & now the front sensor is constantly showing red around the ‘plates location, &!when activated the front sensors bong incessantly.

Have I missed something in the submenus for the car to ignore this, (or learn that it follows it everywhere), or is this a software ‘feature’ (known bug)?

Also why does the car not automatically trigger the front camera when it correctly detects front proximity, eg. when parking on the street, or in my case a tight off road driveway?

Not a bug. The ultrasonic sensors detect an obstruction. Try putting a bend in the plate to more closely follow the bumper.

Pre order & delivery when test driving I was a bit surprised that it didn’t initiate the blind spot cameras on a turn signal, (which now it does).
maybe they can update the software to include a learn or ‘get over yourself’, if (as a plate does) it’s something that goes everywhere & is a constant? (Despite well over 95% of the cars parked at the Service Centre in El Segundo having no front plates).
Thanks again though, will deal with it until a (hopefully further software release) as am sure am not alone in using an Everbuilt plate holder.

I used the same plate holder and found success adjusting the plate as far away from the sensor as possible. Please don't wait on or expect a software update to 'fix' this. The sensors are operating as designed and intended. They see an obstruction and alert on it. This won't change until you remove the obstruction by adjusting the plate.

I don't think the sensors capture enough detail to be able to ignore the license plate like that, without completely ignoring everything it detects. Fairly certain it has no way to differentiate a permanent obstruction versus a temporary one that happens to be the same distance.

I’ve had a buggy sensor for a while, they replaced it as they found a chip in one of them but because it was damaged I had to pay for it. It went buggy again a month later, turns out it was the module failing. That was replaced under warranty. Did the chipped sensor actually cause the false alert probably not… do I want my $400 back, yes. But, they comped me some other charges on this last trip so it’s close enough and I appreciated how they handled it:

I have a similar tow hook plate holder.

There is a sweet spot between the sensors where you can put the plate and not have it trigger the sensor.

It’s a really narrow allowable placement, but you can get it with some trial and error.
