I have been dealing with this issue for over a year now. I have no problem programming my garage in the Rivian. My problem is that 80% of the time when I press the side steering wheel button the garage will start to open and then stop. It is infuriating. Some days I sit there pressing the button and trying to get it to fully open 7 or 8 times before it will actually open all the way without stopping.

previously a hard reset on the vehicle worked for about 3 months but with the latest update the issue came back. Anyone had this issue or have ideas?

I’ve had this same issue intermittently for two years now. I have a Linear garage door opener, so maybe there’s something related to that. Others have speculated that having certain frequency LED lights in the garage may interfere with the signal, but that doesn’t explain the intermittent nature of the issue. I even had Rivian replace the mirror, which is where the garage door transmitter is housed, and that didn’t fix it. What brand garage door opener do you have?

Ive had this happen intermittently since the feature has been introduced. It only happens every 5-10th time I use it and pressing the button one other time solves the issue.

I have this happen occasionally. The problem is me. If I hold the button too long or kind of bounce off of the button when releasing it a second signal is sent which stops the door. Its also possible there is an issue with the with the Rivian button not making good contact. But this would likely show up when the button is used for other features.

Sometimes the opener does not activate. But never start/stop that I can tell.
LiftMaster openers

I would have a garage door person take a look. Would seem to be more likely the door might need service or the safety sensor is not dead on.

Mine is a linear as well… have you found anything that works? It’s just weird that for months it will work with no issues and then progressively get worse and worse

No issues when using the typical garage opener, just when doing it through the Rivian

I do wonder if it has something to do with Linear. It’s a less common brand that mainly makes commercial, not consumer products. I’m tempted to switch to another garage door opener brand to see if it fixes it. If it doesn’t fix it, then it may then be most likely a rivian defect. Maybe the button is defective and clicks twice sometimes.

Can I suggest you try just pushing the button once?

I have mine configured at two different locations and when I first configured them I thought I had issues because I was pressing it multiple times. I’ve since noticed it can take 2 - 4 seconds on occasion for the garage to start moving. Once I noticed that I started pressing the button once, it has been well over a year now and I have not had any issues at either location.

Definitely not the issue. I’ve tried everything from pushing multiple times, pushing just once, pushing just once really quick and short, and holding. It has the same issue no matter what

If you try it, let me know. I’d be happy to switch it out if that was the issue

Have you tried from selecting the menu instead of the steering wheel?

The icon moves to a swirl and the menu grays out so I don't think the signal is sending twice.
I have three doors set up and cannot activate the second/third until the sequence resets to ready.

Probably not a solution for everyone, but Home Assistant with the Rivian integration you can trigger your garage door when vehicle location toggles between home/away. Very reliable and no user input needed after initial setup.

I haven’t heard of this, how is it set up? Or do you have a link to a guide?

Home Assistant is pretty well known in the Smart Home community. It's open source, continually developed/updated, and pretty much works with every damn smart thing you throw at it. In this particular case, if you were running a home automation system based on Home Assistant and that system included your garage doors (pretty much all of the major garage door manufacturers can be interfaced with home assistant) then adding the rivian integration would enable you to set a simple automation for what I mentioned above.
