Was at the SC to drop off our R1S for some repairs. Asked about the Gen2 demos and they just happened to have someone cancel their morning test drive, so I took the R1S for a spin.

It was also the first time I've driven a performance dual motor+max battery vehicle. Throttle response is tuned quite differently than my Gen1 quad. Seems more reserved until you really get deep into the throttle. The amount of punch the vehicle has at 30 mph when in optimal settings, sport+lowest+stability off, is enough to chirp the tires pretty significantly. I'm not sure if I ever noticed being able to do that with my R1T.

As for the suspension changes, it rides more comfortably than either of our gen1 vehicles, but I did experience porpoising in at least one spot of my drive. In all-purpose, there's some strange steering delay that made it feel more boaty than I'm used to. IMO it's close to what my R1T would experience after one of those suspension updates a few months back that was re-updated in the next patch.

The door handle change to a button on the inside was not as bad as I expected it to be. Felt more responsive than the physical latch and didn't require as much effort to open the door from outside. I highly suspect my toddler will be able to open the gen2 doors while he struggles with the gen1 doors.

I'm not a big fan of the change in the drive stalk, where you have to pull it towards you to engage adaptive cruise/highway assist. But I suspect it wouldn't take too long to get used to it. Of the changes between gens, I'd say this one has the highest likelihood of being annoying if/when we own one vehicle from each generation, and I am alternating driving them.

I do have some concerns on whether or not our stroller would fit into the frunk on the gen2. Had I known this one was available today, I would have brought it to do a test fit. It's tight in the gen1 frunk, but it does fit.

Not a fan of the loss of the wood accents moving to a vinyl dash. Also not a fan of the loss of the air compressor as a standard feature. I use the compressor quite frequently to air up bike tires and vehicle tires.

I didn't even use the stereo at all, so can't make a comparison there.

Overall, I'd say it's definitely a better vehicle than our Launch Quads, all things considered. But it's not better enough for me to want to upgrade our R1S. I'm still on the fence on if it'll even be worth trading up my R1T to the new quad motor, given the low trade-in value and the fact that it's nowhere near worn out yet.
