On posts asking for tech help it's pretty important to tell us if it's gen 1 or 2, and general age. Also how long it's done this. "Heater" could mean heat pump, or not. And some early models had noisy HVAC and there was a TSB.

If you have the Tri, then you have a heatpump (Gen 2) mentioned above. This is most likely the normal sound of the compressor. When the differential temp request is high...like you want it 72 in the cabin and it is 0 degrees outside, it will be louder as they work harder when it's cold. Mine is usually much more loud on start-up, until the internal cabin temp approaches it's set point, then the compressor backs off as it doesn't have to work as hard. Feel free to add more details to the sound, your temps, etc and many on this forum can answer more accurately or detailed.

My heat pump recently failed at around 11,000 miles. It had been making peculiar loud noises for a month or so before it completely failed. It took me a very long time to get a repair scheduled during winter months 😡

I can hear mine when it starts (Gen1) but it quiets down. It heats up very quickly.

Gen 1 doesn't have a heat pump. You have resistive heating and a traditional air conditioning system.

Whatever it is doing, it starts bit loud, then quiets down. Its the best HVAC I've ever had in a vehicle.

Trimotor = gen 2 = heat pump so basically your heater is like a reverse AC compressor - it will be kind of noisy.

Yeah, mine is pretty noisy also. It's just a thing.

Gen2 R1T owner here - some noise is normal from what I can tell/have read about/is echoed here, but if it’s excessive it may indicate the heat pump is not charged correctly. I have a similar situation going on now and put in a service ticket with a video (with audio). The tech reviewed and now I have an appointment at a nearby SC. He indicated the noise seems to indicate an issue - either refrigerant charging issue or perhaps a faulty heat pump. Definitely recommend submitting a ticket to get a tech to review.
