I’d love to be able to test drive Rivians. How does one get such a job? Heck, I’d do it for free? I watched the guys from RAM testing the new TRX at Silver Lake Dunes (MI) last summer and it intrigued me. How does one get involved in this area? I’m not looking for a new job per se as I’m retired but I’m 47 and think this would be interesting. Thank you!

Do you have any experience in the automotive world? Rivian has a lot of applicants... You'll need to stand out.

Just make sure to let them know you have a lead foot!

(in all seriousness, I have no idea how people get lucky enough to get these roles)

It probably starts with an engineering degree, and would include significant automotive knowledge & experience along the way. Not only would you have to test, but you'd have to understand the performance within the context of the vehicle components at play in the different testing scenarios.

Many of us do this as hobbyists, but it's a leap to do it professionally to create a mass market vehicle. Reliability, safety, cost/supply chain, and a lot of other considerations go into vehicle engineering & performance.
