I’m a longtime driver/owner of Electric Vehicles (EV): initially one of the 1st 1000 owners of the Chevrolet Volt (serial hybrid), then a used 2015 VW e-Golf (battery EV, or BEV). I also own a 2015 Subaru Outback internal combustion engine (ICE) that we use for distance driving (heading down to the South Bay, heading down to SoCal, heading east to Sacramento or the mountains, etc.).
Now I am looking into the R2 Launch Edition (LE), used 2024 BEV, and new BWM iX3 and Volvo EX60. I’ve got an R2 reservation and I’ve already attended the Palo Alto Block Party and completed a demo drive.
I am essentially still looking for a compelling reason to buy the R2 LE instead of the alternatives (listed above). For example: pricing, features/functions, and our plans for the future.
Along that lines for now,
1/ I am curious what types of adventures (road trips as well as offroading) and locations that other people in California and the Western USA have taken in their Rivian R1’s (& soon R2’s).
2/ I’m also interested in how others with dogs, especially Dalmatians, equip and accommodate their friend(s) daily and on such adventures. i suspect most of this equipment will likely be aftermarket so I’m very open to recommended products and brands.
- in our Subaru and e-Golf, we typically keep one of the back seats folded down (“60”), so the dog has access to the entire back. And, entry typically by them jumping up into a seat and then to the back area. In the Subaru, at 8 1/2 inches off ground are older dog needed assistance in getting up Into it. He refused to use the ramp that we bought which worked with the room available when the door was open as well as the back hatch.
- On road trips, we have tried both crated and uncrated arrangements for the Dals in the back.
- And, I’d love to learn about any particular “dog friendly“ places (parks, campgrounds, motels, etc.) that you’ve stayed at on your adventures.
3/ I have been watching what features/functions and am interested in the extent and quality of the integration both available at launch as well as delayed (both fairly well scheduled but not yet public as well as “planned”) and dropped thus far for the R2.
