Key for Rivian Rack

I lost one of the Rivian keys for my Rivian rack and tried unsuccessfully to obtain another one from Rivian.
And yes, I did also try Yakima.
Rivian said: ”you have to buy new cores and keys”.
Ended up going to a locksmith who made a duplicate.
The blank that does work ( non yakima) is code ILCO LF12. He recommends not using the Rivian one, since the cores wear out the brass keys.

They're just standard Yakima cores with Yakima keys

If you only lost one, you could have gotten the key number from the remaining key and ordered from Yakima. It's etched into the rivian key.

Rivian started using special key numbers outside the range that Yakima will support. A155 and below are Yakima numbers, newer Rivian products are higher than that and the only options is buying the whole kit from Rivian.

So either Yakima didn’t want to support or Rivian wanted to make an extra buck, either way we get the short end.

side note, you could have also re-cored your racks with new Yakima cores and I'm assuming it's cheaper than getting them from Rivian. They come with the key blank to remove the Rivian cores unless they changed up to a whole new core design with new key numbers (naaaaaaah thatscrazytalk).

But , I do have a solution for all of you and a locksmith should only charged $10.
So, take your original key, get copies made and put the original away in a safe place.

Rivian specifically owns the rights to the Rivian labeled keys - even though Yakima created them. This is the agreement Rivian wanted. If you need a replacement that is a Rivian branded key, you must go through Rivian. If it's a Yakima key and labeled A155 or lower, Yakima can help you.
