Long way to go for self driving for Rivian

Rivian isn't aiming for self, can't really do level 2 even likely. At best on a straight freeway it will help hold you in your lane. Doesn't even hold well on slight freeway turns it seems. I really just consider my Rivian having decent ACC, that's about it (even then, without a resume function, ug).

Is that a gap you can fill from 30 feet back? Like someone said above, for self driving you only need to not crash. So in order to successfully change lanes, all that matters is what's in your blind spot and beside you.

Only in edge cases do you care about weird configurations like a vehicle going the exact same speed in your target lane and what's in front of that one. And in those cases I'd never trust anything but my own two hands anyway.

Rivian in terms of self driving.

I have a Tesla with the latest FSD beta. Honestly the only thing I miss is the lane keep assist working on more roads and more consistently on the roads it works on (dont turn off for tunnels, dont turn off for toll booths that were there a decade ago, etc). Its very close to good enough from my perspective and what the "competition" has isn't the magic people claim. Just make lane keep assist (and adaptive cruise) work on all roads. That's enough.

How about not taking pictures while driving, Rivian has never claimed to have or a promise of self driving ( unlike Tesla with their bull shit of "its 1 or 2 years away in 2019 when I bought my model X and foolishly gave him 6k...)
How's it going, yup still in beta.

Throw down an extra 6 or foolishly 12 thousand and then you can be upset at a "driver assistance " program.
I've been driving Teslas for years, their program is not much better for having such a head start

Who cares? It knows something is there, that's all that matters. Not to mention that you're not using HWA, or even adaptive cruise in the photo.

This certainly does not boost my confidence of using self driving!

Teslas system makes mistakes too. Rivian will not be self driving. Its an ADAS and ill be happy if they add auto lane change.

Agree, every system have bugs. Point is to acknowledge the issue and take appropriate action to resolve it.

Back in early January when I was shopping insurance quotes for my soon to be delivered R1T I asked Rivian/Nationwide for a quote. One thing that stuck out was the fact that they told me "the more you use Driver+ the larger discount you'll receive every 6 months".
Seeing how inadequate Driver+ is at this juncture.. I wonder if they are still rewarding and encouraging drivers to use it?

They're very different and there are some real magical moments in Tesla's FSD. But its not the perfection that the fanboi's like wholemarsblog claim it is. It does some seriously dumb things on every drive in my experience and you need to be hyper vigilant. I use it all the time, but my point is in the Rivian I dont miss it. I love driving the Rivian.

I still drive the Tesla for commuting and some road trips as its more efficient and I have free supercharging for life, and i'm already way past the warranty period.
