Loud Breaking sound, Lower Tailgate Free-falls Now

Anyone else have the (my guess is a lowering gear) break on the lower tailgate? Mine just made a horrific snapping sound and now falls like a giant slab of metal. Both cables are still working well.

The torsion bar popped off - that’s all. This is how I fixed mine to never come off again. Open lower tailgate, lift the half cover and you’ll see it; lever it back in place and your lower tailgate will have some resistance against.

My Gen 2 R1s has had something break on average of every 6.882 days of ownership in the last 5 months. FML. 23 repairs required since December 14th.

It's disappointing they haven't designed a better torsion bar yet. Mine snapped in the cold a few months back—close to the same spot as yours, and it managed to cut the wiring for the latch motor. The replacement they installed looks the same.

Do you have a gen 2? Mine has been a horrific experience. I have owned, saab 93, r56 mini cooper, land rover Lr4 and this car has been the worst (which is saying something) I'm afraid to drive it anywhere further than 40 miles. I'm being held hostage by a fucking car.

Nope, Gen 1. Sorry, that sounds frustrating. This has been my only surprise thus far.

The Gen 1 R1T Quad i had as a loaner for 3 weeks was absolutely a perfect car. It really made me happy I picked RIVIAN. .....had I known...

I think its more the quality of the metal. They should switch to a stronger ore combination.
