Kachook,So, I took the plunge and got my first EV yesterday - the Mach-E Premium AWD. I got this as a placeholder for the R1S although if I love it, I will end up canceling. My issues for a newbie EV owner include range anxiety and the inability of the Ford Pass App to connect to EVgo only to realize that I have to go online and activate it. Then, I need to wait for Ford to approve, which may take a while since we are on a holiday weekend. Happy Independence Day! On that note, Electrify America is allowing free charging this weekend, but it is not worth for me to drive half-an-hour to get there. So, I will just wait for the electrician tomorrow to install a Nema 14-50. I envision that some of these are problems that I may face with a Rivian since they have yet to deliver a vehicle. I cannot wait until the R1S comes out as I crave the larger interior room. As it is, I thought I would only get my vehicle in late 2022 or early 2023. Because of my range anxiety with this vehicle, I think I definitely will hold out for the max-pack even if it means I am looking well into 2023 assuming we don't have another kid.![]()
Congrats on getting your Mach-E Premium AWD! After reading all of your comments, I hope the combination of excitement, range anxiety, and a long weekend of "fireworks" doesn't cause that extra kid you were talking about to show sooner than planned, like next April. Should that happen, you may have to switch your reservation to the R1S with the Large Pack battery. Not only should it be available by that time, but it will have that third row for kids and will also save you $10,000.
Those savings should be more than enough to cover shipping and long-term storage of your Mach E in my garage. That said, it would be much cheaper to just fly me down to Houston and have me drive back to Oregon via this shortcut I know of through Austin, New Orleans, Savanah and Boston. It has to be reassuring knowing that you have options. Either one is fine by me, and my April (and May) of next year looks wide open.
I'd be more than happy to fully charge it after every trip around here to keep the tires rotated. As soon as the last kid finishes high school and begins to prepare to leave the nest, I'll drive it back in time for their graduation. That will be my graduation gift to all of you, but please don't make a big thing out of it. I prefer to be anonymous in my philanthropic endeavors,
Since you'll then be empty-nesters, and should you still have that now-oversized R1S hogging the Mach E's garage space, we can talk about storing that old thing back here. Same services, no charge. Just my little way of helping a friend in need!
(A little free advice, but kids who manage to graduate early do better in gaining college entrance than those who wait until the heat and humidity of June to graduate.)
Enjoy that new bundle of joy until the next one shows up in the Spring!
Thinking of you!
