I think everyone here knows EPA range is not highway range, and for EPA range you need ideal conditions. What we are discussing is how Rivian can claim 410 miles out of the Max Pack when the EPA range of the Large is 352 miles. The only way the math works is if the Max is 149 kWh usable. Otherwise, Rivian is playing games and that is really, really disappointing. Like I will just keep my MME disappointing.
I am able to exceed EPA with QM 20" AT under reasonable conditions however that is certainly not the norm.
Efficiency, chemistry change, blah, blah, blah. KWH is KWH no magic the way I see it.
I am not pulling the trigger to trade up from the R1S till we get some real (towing) MP data.
Buyers that can make do with a MME don't need the versatility that R1 has to offer or the 100miles (30%)of additional range the Max has over the extended range MME.
Now if I was told I had to manage my needs with a MME that would be a real challenge & exceedingly disappointing.

Which of course is insane. They just need to delete the large pack, only offer 2 batteries like Tesla, in the same exact footprint so as to keep production cost to a minimum. LFP for standard pack, and the new Samsung 5.2/5.4ah cells in the max pack. Adjust the price to something reasonable where they make money but aren't fleecing customers for $1000 per kWh.

Then the mystery is over, they fulfilled their "promise" of a 400 mile range vehicle, but didn't exceed expectations like they could have with real-world 400 miles or 180kwh pack for extreme off-grid off-roading/trail camping. Feathers get unruffled and we all get distracted on R2.

Then, in 18-24 months when they are turning a profit, they throw those extra 2 modules into the truck and give us some kind of unholy Enduro quad for-realzies-maxpack that does 500 miles, 1000HP, 2sec 0-60. And then take that same form factor, throw LFPs into the EDV and start selling an overlanding van with that pack.

This is the way.

Rivian came out and said it is 149. Also is a different type of battery in the entire pack. Supposedly more efficient.
It is impossible for the battery to be that much more efficient unless it is a magic battery. And apparently, it is a magic battery as confirmed by Rick and Michael. :surprised:

Who said it was a magic battery? Rivian said it is a different battery which accounts for the longer range while not being as big. If you don't want to believe them don't buy one. I'm not going too.

It is a magic battery if it improves efficiency that much. There is no other explanation. Well, I guess they could have messed around with the EPA test procedure and faked 410 miles of range. Hmm. I wonder which is more likely?
