New MSW Type 52 Wheels in Gloss Black

Love the Red Canyon on the R1S @Mark_AZR1T. It was (and still is) my first choice for the S but IMO, does not look nearly as good on the R1T.

On a somewhat related topic to wheels (and apologies to the OP for my second thread hijack), are there any aftermarket TPMS units that are recommended or conversely, will any using 433 MHz be OK?

No worries. Yes aftermarket ones exist. Atomic sells some.

I just noticed the black ones available today and bit the bullet.

Now the question is, do I use these as my winters or do I put my summer tires on here and put winters on the OEM rims?

I picked up the Type 52 wheels from the Tire Rack warehouse today. They look as good in the flesh as they do in the photos posted in this thread.

I thought I read that you re-used the stock lug nuts with these wheels, so was surprised to find 20 lug nuts and a deep socket included. I do believe that both fit however, and that you can use either. Someone please call me out on that if it's wrong.

Tire Rack was out of stock on the TPMS, so i ordered a set of BHSens units (Huf UVS7050) from Atomic Wheels (an aside, Atomic has some very nice wheels and is a good company to do business with, but their least expensive, which I'm sure is higher quality than the MSW's, is more than twice the price.) Anyway, the Atomic website says that they are plug and play units however the instructions in the box plainly state "Sensor programming required." Will find out next week: My local auto shop is putting a set of General HTS60's in 275/60 on the wheels and will fit them to the R1T. If programming is indeed required, they hopefully will be able to do that.

it will be nice to have a set of both winter and summer wheels & tires, though I'm a bit conflicted as to which tire & wheel combo I should be going with. The Generals are AS tires and so will be on the R1T for most of the year; perhaps they should be on the Rivian rims.? OTOH, even though the Pirelli's will only be used for about 3 months each year, the Scorpions look really great on the stock rims, so much so that they are the factor that elicits the greatest number of positive comments about my Rivian from the folks on the street.

Same experience - Tirerack website says "reuse OE hardware" but new lug nuts are included. I like the OE nuts better due to their thicker taper area but was worried about some ferment problem since the OE nuts are wider and shallower.

I measured everything twice and did a test install fully torqued down and then removed to check for any signs of problems. Based on this I can confirm that the nuts do work - they do not bottom out on the stud nor does the wider shoulder make contact with the raised rim of the wheel taper.

Just to make sure @cevans, when you say you can "confirm the nuts do work," you mean the larger, stock lug nuts from the Rivian wheels, and not the nuts supplied by TR, right?

BTW, I went to discount tire and they can order the same wheels as well. It is not on their website - you need to call or visit the store.

Also, there is a promotion today and tomorrow - 80$ off tires, including a new Rivian Goodyear 20" tire. So MSW 52 + Tires + installation (TPMS are mine) - less than $2,300 including taxes. I think it is the same price that you will pay for 4 new 21" tires + installation+taxes.

Edited to add driving impressions (below photo).

My local shop completed the tire work on my R1T today. The only very minor glitch was that the shop said that the factory lug nuts would not fit the Type 52 wheels, so they used the ones supplied by TR with the wheels. The sole practical implication is that since I have a factory spare, I need to keep a set of OEM lug nuts in the car, and of course the 22mm deep socket that fits the MSW lug nuts.

I probably should have had the shop mount the Generals on the stock Rivian rims, since those tires will be on the truck 75% of the time, but the MSW wheels are not unattractive.

Yesterday was the first time I had a chance to drive any significant distance on the HTS-60's, a mix of a few highway miles combined with several on suburban roads. The new tires are significantly quieter than the Scorpions, something that is very welcome. I had the R1T in Sport mode and firm; even so my impression was that the Generals gave a more comfortable ride.

I did not have a chance to do too much backroad driving, but the little that I did seems to indicate that handling and road feel are not as good as with the Pirellis. Given the more plush ride, which likely means that the Generals have more complaint sidewalls, the loss of handling capability is unsurprising. Let me add that I did not feel that the Generals handled poorly, only that IMO, they were less crisp than the Pirellis.

These look so good! This is exactly my spec and the color combo is perfect!

Another option to add to my list for when my 21s wear out. I was leaning toward bronze wheels, but now that I have swapped out for the black emblems, I think black wheels will look better (and disgust my wife less).
