R1T Launch Edition
Hi all,
New member here. I'm about to take delivery of a used 2022 R1T quad motor Launch model tomorrow. Super excited about it - but it'll be my first time owning a truck and first time buying from Carvana. They have a 7d return period which eases the stress of not having driven this particular vehicle prior to purchase. I'd love any advice you all have on what to look for and evaluate during this period. It's an early 2022 build (February) and has 30k miles so the previous owner seems to have gotten a good run with it. I've crossed the "early" adopter bridge on EV's previously (bought a Tesla model 3 back in 2018) but I imagine there are some things you've all experienced with the 2022's that would help me confirm if this is indeed a good unit and worth keeping.
For example, the paperwork says there's an open recall on the accelerator pedal but references an OTA update as well as physical replacement. Would be curious if anyone here has advice on the necessity of physical replacement and how to approach getting that remedied with my local service center in Sparks, NV.

I'm also up in the mountains (Truckee, CA) where winters are no joke - so I'd love any tips on how to prepare or operate the vehicle in potentially very snowy, icy conditions.

Appreciate any pointers and thanks in advance! I've already learned a lot from reading some posts here over the last few weeks and it's great to see the enthusiasm and community here. Kind of reminds me of the Tesla groups several years back...

There is a thread here with a checklist on what to look for. I bought my R1T used, I would contact Rivian and see what has been done to the truck. You most likely want to see about the Tonneau cover, the wireless charging pad, and anything else they might have replaced.

Based on your location, get the all-weather rubber mats. I bought some used on FB marketplace, but you can get a set at a good price.

most fun I've had driving a vehicle since my first one. Hope that yours has any of the early bugs worked out. mine is a 2023 so came with manual cover, which i heard was an issue for many if not serviced or replaced.

Investigate if the 12v batteries were replaced. If not, be on the lookout for any 12V battery warning.

I bought a '22 with 4800miles and a couple of of months later the 12V batteries died and bricked my truck in my garage (luckily).

Also you might want to check The 12v battery voltage from the ride menu (check the proactive 12v batteries thread for instructions).

This is so you avoid being stranded by your truck in the near future and piece of mind for the long run. I honestly feel way better now knowing that I have a set of new 12v batts ??

Good luck and congrats! You'll have enjoy it for sure!

Update after taking delivery today: The truck drives great, seems balanced, stable and quick with far better road noise at 70mph than my Tesla. Quite a few previously undisclosed cosmetic issues that point more to shoddy inspection/QC on the part of Carvana, but the big headache is the that the powered tonneau cover jams after about 6” of travel when opening, and stops. Touchscreen gives an “object detected” error. I’ve seen plenty of discussion on here about replacing these gen1 systems so I suppose I’m going to have to get in the queue at the closest service center to get it fixed/replaced once the title and registration transfer over to me. Are there any tips on how to more “manually” get it to open without voiding the warranty in the meantime? It’s only marginally useful as a truck when I can only open the bed 6”…
Also the vehicle had no door flashlight, camp speaker, and spare tire. I wasn’t sure if those were standard issue for the ‘22 LE’s - does anyone know? If so then I think I have another tricky dynamic to explore with requesting some sort of replacement or reimbursement for missing equipment/accessories.
Overall I want to keep it because aside from the PTC the rest of the main systems seem to be working well. Just not sure how big/long a headache I may be dealing with and the full warranty is “only” good for another ~28 months.

Camp Speaker and Flashlight were standard. Spare was $800 for LE if I remember correctly.

As far as I know only the service center (or mobile tech) can disable the PTC. The replacements are extremely slow going so if I were you I would create a ticket and have them manually retract it and disable in the open position for now.

I deliberately ordered the manual cover because I didn’t want to deal with this. Although some folks have 2022s with PTCs that have had no issues at all??‍♂

Thanks godfodder, that's helpful background info. Now to see if Carvana will help with sourcing replacements for at least the speaker and flashlight...

Good advice - thanks dogman. Obviously not ideal to be potentially stuck with an open bed through the winter up here but if it's just a matter of time before I can get a new module that may be worth keeping it. Loving the vehicle otherwise so far.

I bought a pre-owned 22 QM LE R1T at the beginning of the year; it had the PTC disabled when i bought it- a new one was installed by the service center a few months later. My truck had the spare tire (truck had the original "window sticker" with it so i knew the options it was built with), not all trucks did/do. the flashlight was missing from my truck but the camp speaker was there. SC said i could buy a replacement flashlight but they did not offer to give me one (and I didn't need one so i did not buy one). I was also able to purchase a wristband key and key cards. Overall Rivian SC has been very easy to work with.

I picked up my 22 LE a couple of weeks ago and Rivian Customer service has been great so far. Most of your questions have been answered. While I was communicating with rivian chat on a couple of items I asked for a complete service history for my truck. The next day I had every service center visit record emailed to me. Most recently the PTC was replaced which was a worry of mine but it looks like I'm still on the original 12V's. No reference of the Wireless charging pad but it only works with my phone sideways closest to the armrest. I guess that will be my first service ticket.
