You could call Rivian and see if they have any info. I did my ppf after purchase because I couldn't decide between clear and stealth. My installer did a fantastic job. It's been almost a year and it looks great. I vaguely remember that the factory install doesn't wrap all the way around some areas. All the best.

Was the stealth wrap ever available as an option in the configurator? I think front PPF was the only option from factory and AFAIK that still remains. The stealth wrap was a promo they were doing on some vehicles to help move inventory. Not sure if they are still doing that or not.

I like the option of being able to get a wrap from the factory as it eliminated a lot of downtime. A full wrap usually takes at least 1-2 weeks in the shop.

I can also understand the concerns about it causing issues with production.

No, only shop inventory.

It was available in the olden days, but I’ve been around since 2021. When it became a freebie to move vehicles I didn’t think anything of it, but it now it seems like part of the logic was to use up their stock and/or get to the number they promised Xpel as part of the deal. Good thought about streamlining production. I too heard that the PPF covered some edges but not all.

I don’t see the option for PPF in the “Build” section of the site
https://rivian.com/configurations/builder/r1t

Do we think it’s gone for ever?
Better off having it done locally anyway. Should there be problems, easier to have face-to-face access to local installer. Plus, local installer may be more accommodating than the ones in Normal; upsize the plotter cut pattern for better coverage around edges. Be warned, edges can still lift and collect dirt. Inevitable small “price” to pay for overall paint protection.

The ones offered by Rivian is a template and generally low quality installation. Edges aren't wrapped, badges are cut out, etc.

Thus why it's a $4,000 option over the typical $7k+.

I’ve heard most edges were wrapped and the badges were not cut out, at least on the stealth. Never saw it in person though

They are all pre cut unless your installer is specifically doing a bulk install (very expensive). Some installers tweak the templates a bit before plotting for a better install.

My wife's R1S has the full frontal PPF and the quality of it is very good. Edges appear to be wrapped.

On the stealth, here is one forum member who shared pics. It looks really good!

With all that said having a good relationship with a quality installer is a good idea.

I don’t think so. I’ve seen quite a few of them and it was not wrapped. Here’s an example.

Yikes - now it all makes sense: why car detailers revile the factory wrap, why Rivian would stop offering it, why it was always cheaper than shops would do, why they would end up giving it away for free.

I mean the truck from 10 feet away looks incredible, but those edges would put a dagger in the heart of a car person. Honestly I'm not even sure why that's acceptable.

It's practical for me, as I pick up my Dual Performance Max this week with free Stealth. I'm getting older... maybe my eyes will be bad enough that they won't notice the gaps.
