Hi everyone from the NW! I'm new to the off-roading scene and would like some advises and knowledge from ya'll.
My friend (who's an ICE with a lexus Gx460) will be leading the way and we're thinking of going on the Oregon Back Country discovery route in reverse, starting from Hood River to Mt Hood Govt Camp. My question is basically charging and range. Would I have enough if i top off at Hood River, then make my way through the Mt Hood national area to Gov Camp? actually what might be better if someone can share their trip details here for me regarding the Oregon BCD routes.

Thanks!!!

Might help folks if you post the OR BDR here for people so they know without having to look.

If you want to do this you likely need an NACS adapter. I guess your charging route would look like ~ Hood River, Madras, Bend, Crescent from there that is where you get into trouble because there isn't much from there to the end so you would need to incorporate Burns or McDermitt Tesla stations somehow.

Yea. You need to know more about what specific trails you'll be on and how much ground you think you'll cover. Then you can plan from there in the Rivian app and or plug share.
Worst case, just plan where to pull off early to charge. Your Lexus bud will probably make fun of you like my Bronco off-roading friend does.

Pin stripes worry me more than charging ;D.
I've Pinstriped a few vehicles on those routes. Not sure if I got off course or whatever, but I've not accepted that on the Rivian yet lol.

A friend and I are going to do an overloading trip in the Owyhee and Steens area at the end of August. I'll be using Owyhee State Park (50 amp hookups) as a charging base for 2 trips out into the area for overnight camping. For the second segment around the Steens, I will use an RV Park in Frenchglen (again, 50amp hookups) as the base for 2-3 outings up onto the Steens mountains.

I don't have a sense of how my range will do in these slow, rocky conditions, with a rooftop tent. The longest drive is a 52 mile out and back (so 104 miles total) segment. Logic says with a full charge that should be no problem.

I will report back on this thread in early Sept. on how it went.

Nice, I look forward to the report. I want to get out to the Owyhee's and the Alvord lake bed with the Rivian. Lack of chargers in the area will require extra planning that might require overnight camp charging.

I think my lexus friend and I are gonna tackle the Bonney meadow/bennet pass, starting from Hood river for topping off. now what i'm worried about is after topping off at Hood river to begin the trail... would i need to basically veer off halfway to meadows to charge or nah. first timer for off roading and EV

How did the trip go? Looking at doing something similar.
what stops did you make, what would you do differently?
